Solved Spoiler Tags are not working properly

Post by Animeraider March 31st 2010, 5:52 am

I use spoiler tags in nearly every topic in my forum (over 2,000 topics - almost all posted prior to the problem starting) and when you click on them now nothing shows up - which only started happening in the last 24 hours. Something has gone wrong with the spoiler tags. Is anyone looking into a fix?

Can you post a link to a thread wherein there is a spoiler? make sure the forum is available for guests to view. I will check it then.

Try here: http://animeraider.forumotion.com/kissaten-f3/this-is-a-test-topic-for-the-support-staff-t1933.htm

Here is the exact wording of the post:

If you click on the spoiler tag below you should see a sentance:

Spoiler:

If nothing came up, which is what I and my members are experiencing, then you can see the problem happening.

(interesting that it's working here but not in my own forum - maybe a compatability issue with the template?)

Hello,

I've got your spoiler on both your forum and this forum perfectly normal, both with text in them.

Could you please try clearing your browsers Cache & Cookies?

Solved still not working, and members are complaining

Post by Animeraider March 31st 2010, 8:08 am

It's still not working, and members are complaining.

I tried cache and history clearing. Here is what we see before clicking on the spoiler tag:

Spoiler Tags are not working properly Sm8276

And here is what we see after:

Spoiler Tags are not working properly 116hmcm

Tried it on multiple computers with different operating systems and getting the same result.

Okay, can you do one thing.
Try accessing the site via anonymouse.org see if it works then.

Not an option for many people, including myself - those browsers are terrible for Japanese. Also needing to switch to another browser doesn't make sense - I haven't changed anything about the forum itself.

May I remind you that double/triple posting isn't tolerated unless separated by 24 hours (Use the edit button) Wink

All that i can say is use firefox then.

Sorry about that - I could have tightened that up.

Anyway, firefox does work properly, IE seems not to and I do not understand why that would be the case as until yesterday mid-afternoon my time it worked fine. firefox is a suitable solution for some people, but not everyone can use it (people with vision issues who use microsoft software to enhance their browsing experience just as one example - or in my case because it interferes with other software that I run almost constantly that I need to earn a living).

A guest has posted a sample spoiler tag in the topic above and it doesn't work in IE but does in firefox. I do not understand why.

Solved Re: Spoiler Tags are not working properly

Post by shintre March 31st 2010, 7:37 pm

It's not just them, I'm experiencing the same thing with our forums. An example is here: http://wotr.forumotion.com/off-topic-and-ooc-f64/spoiler-tags-code-red-t1548.htm#23359 . It stopped working correctly yesterday, before it worked in both firefox and IE.

The code used for my test was:
Code:
[spoiler]test[/spoiler]

There seems to be something wrong overall. You'll notice it shows up with two white boxes, one with the text and the other blank which the cursor changes when moused over.

Also notable is that there have been no changes to my forum or layout since this issue has occurred. It literally stopped spoiling one day.

By reading down the thread, it seems that some forums let everyone apart from the author view it. I hope this is helpful

Solved Re: Spoiler Tags are not working properly

Post by Lady Orihime April 2nd 2010, 10:01 pm

On IE 8, I'm having the problem of the spoilers under the spoiler tags not showing up.

On Firefox 3.6.2 , I get this:

Spoiler Tags are not working properly 2z86f82

I've cleared everything I could clear on both IE and Firefox, and nothing changed.

Other members are experiencing the same problem.

It's like this

Spoiler:

The spoilers are open when I open the thread, and can't close them. Makes for very bulky signatures XD

And yeah, I tried clearing cache/cookies/etc. as well, no avail

I'm experiencing the same problem as well.

But in my case, the content of the spoiler tags wont even appear once you click it?

It stopped working yesterday. And like many others here, I did not change the layout as well. I did not alter anything.

Please help.
