Activating new users...
On my forum, I originally had it where the admin had to activate new members.
Then it became a hassle, so I changed it to user email confirmation to register/activate.
Well, after I did that, I saw that new people registered but didn't ever sign in.
I wanted to email them all that they should sign in, bla bla bla.
So I went to the inactive users tool in the admin panel.
And when I limited the list to "Not yet activated by admin", all those members that never signed in, were there....
so no matter which method I use to activate member accounts(email confirmation or admin confirmation), it all comes down to me activating them?????????

No it is that they did not click on the link in thier activation email.
You could activate them now if you want.

Yes if it is by admin, it means the admin MUST do it.
If it is by user, then they get an activation e-mail, allowing them to activate it.
Sometimes they put a wrong e-mail in though, and don't get it...like fjhgdohsg@hotmail.com or something..

You will find some people trying to spam you.
I had it where anyone can come in an sign on but I found the same as you just did. I switched to Admin activate with a message to my email box. This way I can see the email address, sent them a note as to why they want to join and responses get activated. Also, I look to see if they put in the right information and not garbage like in the location : nowhere. That kind of thing I address right away and ask the person to put in a proper location else they are considered spam and deleted.
Being Admin of a site is a lot of work, you need to put in the time in order to get a good site going in the format you want.
