Foreign languages
First topic message reminder :
Hello.
Seeing people speaking different languages, it motivated me to open this topic to discuss about languages.
How many languages and which ones do you speak. Yes I know, most people here speak English at different levels, but many people speak at least two languages
More, which language (s) would you like to learn or improve?
Personally, I'm not English. My mother tongue is French, but I have English family, my grandmother was British and one of my uncle got married with an English woman.
I began to learn English at age 9. In Québec, because we're surrounded by English territories, it's compulsory to begin English courses at this age. Then, playing RPG videogames helped me much improving my English and I always got nice results in English at school.
I knew that Editboard, which was only available in French one year ago, was about to get translated in foreign languages, putting English in priority, so when I discovered this board, there was still no mod, so I got a great opportunity to practice my English by moderating and helping people.
At age 17, I began collegial studies in Language Arts. In this program, I got extra English courses while I had the two compulsory ones. In the same program, I had Spanigh courses in four semesters. I would like to continue to improve my Spanish, but I still have no opportunity for it...
Finally, in the future, I would like to learn Japanese which fascinates me. I like the Japanese culture and I would like to have a trip in Japan
And you?

Re: Foreign languages
I wish I had learned French and German when I was young, because apparently in the first years of your life is the best and easiest way of being multi-linguistal. People who can speak 4 or 5 languages fluently are REALLY lucky!

Living in France, french came quicky.
English at school but video-games help a lot.
An Spanish, at school too but I don't master it.
German is a very difficult language to learn, friskybear.
In France, it is used to see which pupil is the best.
( Personnally, the clevest boy I saw never did German... )

Re: Foreign languages
I think french is a difficult language for foreign people because of the verbs, the grammar...

Re: Foreign languages
And all the exceptions
German is a diffcult language at the start because there are many rules to learn, once they're learned, I think Germa becomes a rather traight forward language, seen as there's very few exceptions compared to certain other languages

Re: Foreign languages
I speak English, because I used to be in America, Texas to be exact, so I would have to speak englis in order to talk to my friends. Yes, I have became fluent over years, but years are years, not minutes.
Hablamos espanol tambien (yo y mis hermano, y todo gente de la familia), porque yo soy un persona del espana. Pues, eso define que ustedes consigue el punto.
and My Dad speaks both Spanish & Portugese, but he is currently trying to teach me, so that whenever I am to return to Portugal, I might be half a step away. He must speak to me in spanish to get the point clear of what he is saying.

Re: Foreign languages
I speak American English. I need to learn french because I think Ishimaru Chiaki and Blood {edit: and Eximma} are making fun of me.
They are evil people. Blood seems crazy and Ishimaru reminds me of Katt
Besides, the ladies dig the french language!

About video games, I don't really play, but you don't learn a lot with this ^^" I prefer to watch films in Japanese (XD) with English subtitles

My native language is Dutch. The foreign languages I speak are English (reasonably well), a bit of German and a bit of French. I also "speak" a (very) little bit of Dutch sign language.
