I have my setting where users are not allow to change their username but one was changed today. What do I need to do to prevent this from happening.

Also my forum is by invite only, and only register member with my approval are allow access to the forum. To read or post. So why would I ever see a GUEST showing up when I look to see who is online. Sometimes I see 2 register 1 guest. I should not be having any guest.

This could be robots that visit your forum for indexing you in search engines Wink

By "Robots" Typlo means "Crawlers" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_crawler
These are not human members and can manipulate parts of your forum with ease.

Ok what do they want and what do they do? Should I be worry, and can they cause anyone any virues. I don't mean to be dense but I would rather ask a stupid question than to have to fix a stupid mistake.

Thanks for all the help

Ok I went to the link you provided. I guess I should have did that and then came back with any questions I might have.

I guess I just want to know is there any way to stop these robots, are they harmful and when they do come in they will show up as guest on my forum.

To stop users changing thier names, go to admin > users & groups > user settings and check no for "allow users to change thier names" in the users setting box.

Yes there is a way to stop spiders and bots, but it is too technical for me to explain, perhaps somebody else can..

No they are not harmful, they just simply index your forums, so if a person google it and it shows up, thus the person click the search results to your forums, said person will still not be able to view your forums as it is a closed forums anyways. They always show up as guests.

crawler, a robot by search engine e.g. google to get your main page cache
and get all data in that 1st main page
why? next time when you search your forum (or site too) at google,
they (the search engine) will find your forum (or site)

how they (the bot(s)) find? they (the search engine) seperate each tag to your forum and store it in their database (just been taugh by me lect Smile )

just like my forum: http://tmuforum.forumsmotion.com (just for my university community)
main meta tag is: terengganu, malaysia, universiti, forum, tmuforum

sory for my bad english, but i hope you can get what i say

act, if you have bod(s) visit, they (the bot(s)) should in "bot" list, not in guest i think(?)
and they will tell you, how many bot(s) visit your site at that particular time
