    Solved Founder Change Issues.

Post by TeamBanditRacing February 19th 2012, 11:19 pm

Hi guys, I would also like some help with understanding how a founder change is performed.

The tutorial on the utilities section detailing this process doesn't seem to be helping me, it appears straight forward enough but isn't completing the process, so I put it down to something I am not understanding.

This is a major downer for me so far as the whole forum for my team was my idea and someone offered to do the work setting up the website for me, only now they are the founder and I am left without total control of what was my idea and leaving me looking some what insignificant to the team I created. Add to the scenario that this person isn't present regularily is not helping things at all. For instance I used my paypal account to buy credits for the forum to remove the advertisments, only to find I couldn't apply those credits I paid for, this was extremely infuriating and was over a week before the founder was available to do so for me with my own credits. I would have liked a warning telling me that purchasing these credits as a non-founder does not allow me to apply them to the forum. The next issue is I want to change the skin, again, only the founder may do this.

So I have finally got to the point where the founder and myself were online at the same time and after searching and finding out how to achieve changing the founder name/status myself (current founder told me it was not possible to change founder at all by the way) and following the "Founder Tools" tutorial and changing the emails it has made no change to our forum what so ever.

In the Founder Tools section where it says you must delete all messages the old founder has posted does that even include replies to topics created by other users. The only other thing I could think of is does this person then have to remove themselves from the forum all together which was not what we wanted, I still wanted this member to be part of the admin team, just I need to be the founder. I really hope there is a way around this other than me having to build another page from the ground up and losing my team name.

Any help regarding this issue will be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

    Hello,

Just change accounts. You don't really need to delete post. You're making it harder then it is.

Could you please explain a bit more what you mean by just switch accounts, also please remember that as I am not the founder I can only get the current founder to the appropriate section, I have no idea what he is seeing once he logs into the utilities area, I only know what I can read on the forum as administrator. As far as I am aware he has entered the email and password used upon the forums creation, then put my email address into the new founder section, I have logged out and back in several times but nothing has changed. Thank You Mario.

Create a new account and give it to the founder to use. Switch accounts with the one you have. There are many ways to do this.

Just change the details of the founder tools and the founder forum account and that's it.

Basically all you have to do is have the founder give you the founder account log in information, then you give the founder the account log in information to another account.

I understand what you are saying, but the bit confusing me is won't this still leave the email address which was used to create the forum- an address that is linked to the original founders ISP and home telephone account-as the registered email address to perform similar actions in the future?
The current founder already has possession of a normal members account for our forum, but it is my understanding that if his email address is the forums founding address, he will always have access to change this same function in the future regardless of if I have possession of his current account or not, as I am sure he will not be handing me the email address to keep for the reasons stated above. There is no problem him giving me me the founders account, that much is established, so the big question then is: if I then in possession of the founding account change that accounts email address, will this then set the address I change it to as the founding address to access this same function in the future, or more to the point, so the old founder can not access it to change it back at a later date?

Thanks again, excuse me asking so much but I am very new to this.

Go to the Utilities and change the account information there, too.

    Utilities: https://www.forumotion.com/en/utils/

When you change the email address on the founder account, you will only know the email address to the founder account.
