Then how do I install AutoMOD on my forums?
It requires putting the files in the directory of your forums, but I cannot do that unless FileZilla connects to it.

*Face-Palm* It's not a mod its a customization thing where I can install my chatbar. Apparently you guys don't know anything because from what I heard that phpbb had installed a new feature called AutoMOD, but you know now im just thinking that you guys are probably fake not to disrespect you, but that seems like what it is.

If you don't believe me here take a look at this...

Sorry I wasn't trying to be disrespectful but I just want to add a chatbar to the forums, and I cant do that without going into the directory of my forums and installing AutoMOD to install Envolve Chatbar. I tried to do html, but all it does is mess up the page so I am trying to do a different method, but I see now that you guys will not allow any people to go in the directory of their own website.

This has nothing to do with the forums database, but rather its root directory. You can't get FTP Acces, so FileZilla (an FTP client software) can not connect.

Hence you can't install any Mods, on your forum. (Mods ar ewhat they are called, short for Modifications).

Thats what you get with a free host.
Your confusing the slimmed down free version forumotion is offering you with the full phpbb3 package.
If you wish to have all your files and full directory, download the phpbb package and upload them to a web host.

Don't we copy the database via the FTP?? So its included in the root directory.
So not having the database does mean no FTP access, isn't it?
Maybe i am little misguided since i have not hosted any forum on a webhost. Thank you LGforum for clarifying it in a much technical way.

Nah FTP is just the files (CSS,PHP,HTML etc).
Database is on an SQL server.

Anyway to the OP sorry to disappoint but, an integrated feature is out of the picture.

Yes, Database definitely is on a SQL server but we do use the FTP to transfer the database to a certain folder in the directory. Don't we?

When moving it to another server most people would write a transfer script in their preferred language (PHP or ASP).

I suppose though you can download a database back up, then that would be a file, which you can use to restore the database elsewhere. Which might involve using FTP at some point so I suppose your right in that occasion, but still largely unrelated subjects really. And it's rarely kept in a directory for security reasons.

FTP is mostly just for getting your written files on to your server (and off again). It's another type of transfer protocol. That transfers files (File Transfer Protocol). Files meaning the pages and scripts.
HTTP being the most common, which transfers Hyper Text, (HTML).

Hope that makes sense Smile

I was talking absolutely in terms of Forum Database transfer.
Yes database is a file, which could be used for backing up data.

Also, just for your information i knew what FTP was. Appreciate your efforts to add the information though.
