How to Hide Certain Forum Sections

My problem right now is that I want to make a group that can only see 1 section of the forum but not the rest.

I do not want them to have moderator permissions, and I know how to set up a section and only allow moderators to see it. I tried making a group and just un-checking the boxes for them, however it won't allow me to. If members have access to the this one forum section, this group automatically has the same permission as the members group. I've tried simplified and advanced options and neither have worked for me.

Is there anyway to stop this, and treat the new group separate from the "members" group, or will they always have to use the same permissions as each other?

What happens when you uncheck the members boxes for this section? You should be able to uncheck the boxes for members and then check the boxes for a certain group.
