domain name has now expired

My forum has been down a few days as it says the domain has expired. I get a free domain name as I have a few members , I renewed it a few weeks ago but it didn't work by the looks of things.
I did it again last night but it still isn't up it just keeps saying "renewal is in process" should this take longer than 24 hours ???

It can take up to 72 hours.

It's also saying I may lose the domain in 5 days, please tell
me this wont happen if I'm stuck in some glitch and go over that time limit ?
