Re: Domain transfer
Hello @FIB
There is no problem. If you already have an external domain name, you can use a Cname
Please read this tutorial: https://help.forumotion.com/t7021-cname-redirect-an-extern-domain-name-that-you-own-to-your-board
I let the topic opensif you've further questions

Re: Domain transfer
First of all thank you for opening this for me Derri
I have been in contact with my host and this is the reply I got regarding my Domain
You need to ask the new host for their two DNS names (server names).
I can then just update the domain name to point at the new server.
OR
Maybe easier if I give them Admin access to the domain? They can then change the DNS entries.
Edit: Once this is done how long should it take for it to work?

Re: Domain transfer
I just got another message from my host which is below, can anyone help with this
The instructions didn't really help.
Ask them for the exact DNS entries I need to point the domain name to their server, then it's a pretty quick job.
I need:
DNS1=??
DNS2=??

Re: Domain transfer
Sorry to have to post again but I have a serious problem.
My present hosting company are telling me that they have done all they can to transfer my domain to my new forumotion forum but I keep getting this message in the ACP.....
The supplied domain name is not well configured
Your CNAME must redirect to : ourbulgariaforum.freeforums.eu
I have sent the copies of how it should be done found on here https://help.forumotion.com/t7021-cname-redirect-an-extern-domain-name-that-you-own-to-your-board but they are continually asking me for the 2 named servers for forumotion
ie DNS1=?? DNS2=?? Which I think I have given them which is......
Name Server: NS1.DNSPRO.ORG
Name Server: NS2.DNSPRO.ORG
However I could have given them the wrong information? so can some who has either done this or knows more please tell me what is going wrong? At present all my members have no access to either the old forum or the new because when they click on their old link this is what they get......
So something is definitely wrong but what I do not know? all I can say is that my present host is telling me to get support from here because they say the issue is with Forumotion?

Re: Domain transfer
Hello
You don't need DNS to make a CNAME.
I advise you to start from the begenning. There are three information to enter
1- Time to live:
Indicate your users will get in cache your pages. Choose a long period of time (around 15 days is enough)
2- Name:
It is the particle is the domain. For example:
name.your_domain.uk
If you want to have your forum on www.your_domain.uk, in that case the name =www
If you want to have your forum on forum.your_domain.uk, in that case the name = forum.... etc
3- Value:
It is the url targetted, the url of your forum
You can watch the following video:

Re: Domain transfer
I have just had another question from my host..............
Do they want a 301 redirect ?
Do they want a 301 redirect ?
Re: Domain transfer
I am still having trouble sorting this out, for something that is suppose to be quite simple I just can sort it. I was sent a video today but its in French so I don't completely understand that either, the Cpanel shown in the link https://help.forumotion.com/t7021-cname-redirect-an-extern-domain-name-that-you-own-to-your-board is completely different to what I have as show below.
Is there anyone out there who can help me sort out the problem I am having please.

Re: Domain transfer
Hello
Once again, you don't need DNS and IP to make a CNAME.
I made a Cname to show you it is very easy and fast.
1- Enter the administrative panel of your domain name provider
a- Edit the information of your domain name provider
For example, if you want to redirect forum.triaddict.biz to love.forumotion.com:
-HOST = the particle of your domain name. In our example it is "forum" but it can be www.
-POINT to = url of your forum without http://
- Validate
2- Enter your forumotion forum (here love.forumotion.com)
Admin panel>> General>> Forum address
3- Validation
Depending on your domain name provider it can be immediat or takes 48hrs.

Re: Domain transfer
First, you've to enter this
And if you got an error it only means there is no cname made from ourbulgariaforum.com to ourbulgariaforum.freeforum.eu
I cannot explain further...
