In progress 2nd Domain

Post by EEYEN3 July 29th 2015, 5:51 pm

Current URL: http://www.xwa-universe.com/ is expiring in 23 days. We want to change the name of the forum to a new URL, but we'd also like to retain the rights to xwa-universe and have a re-direct on our current URL to our new URL.

What would that process be like? Is it possible?

Do you mean having two domain names redirect to the same forum?

You can not have two domain names on the same forum.

Is there any way to run a redirect for one of them so our name change doesn't lose members?

Changing names will not delete members.

No, obviously not. But I'm saying, members that for whatever reason don't figure out we're switching URLs might be lost if the xwa-universe.com URL doesn't redirect to the new URL. I know that many sites own multiple URLs and run redirects to one site on a primary URL. I'm hoping that's possible within the confines of the Forumotion system. I guess I'm sort of shocked it seems it's not.

What you need to do is send a newsletter letting your members know that the forum link will be changing.  Also announce it on your forum, social media sites, etc.

Hello

Can I ask you why you want to delete your domain name? Deleting a domain name can affect your SEO... I would not recommend you to do that. However, if you really want to delete your current domain name we can make a 301 redirection until the domain name becomes totally public.

Let me know.
