Ads.txt - Forumotion blocking custom ads?
Hello,
Recently i have notice that Forumotion started to publish the "ads.txt" file in all the domains. For instance: https://help.forumotion.com/ads.txt
This applies to every single forum hosted here... Try in your site to: yourdomain.com/ads.txt
To be honest, this is probably to much technical stuff, and some users may not even care or understand, but this WILL affect anyone who use custom ads. And also will several limit the usage of the service, so is important that someone in Forumotion end see this ASAP.
The ads.txt is a optional, but active project that only allows the ads publishers verified to publish ads in a website, avoiding bogus advertisements. The ID of the publisher should be added to this file to allow the ads show on the page.
More about this here: https://support.google.com/dfp_premium/answer/7441288?hl=en
This is great, but he implementation of it by Forumotion will cause SERIOUS DAMAGE to anyone that use custom ads in they websites, leading to white ads to be shown and lost of revenue.
Currently the Forumotion "ads.txt" file only have the records for the Forumotion adsense ID's and a few additional advertisment partners. However, anyone who have a custom adcode in they website (especially Adsense codes), will now be unable to show they own ads in the website.
Any website in forumotion is now limited to show ONLY the forumotion ads, and not custom one. This applies even for those who pay to disable advertisment using credits (and run they own ad strategy).
Will this be a permanent change?
Somebody should check this quickly, as your company is basically blocking anyone to run they own ads in the forums/websites...

Hello,
FYI, concerning Adsense Ads you're talking about that follow a change in the Adsense policy which now requires to have the publisher reference in the ads.txt file at the root of the site, and it's normal that we added it. it causes absolutely NO DAMAGE to the forum
For adding personal adsense ads on the forum, a solution allowing the founders to do that via their administration panel is under study
I can not give you a deadline for its implementation but we work on it and we will do our best to propose it quickly

Re: Ads.txt - Forumotion blocking custom ads?
Thanks for the info @TheGodfather .
But, indeed, not having the ID in that file cause a BIG DAMAGE. As the publisher ID is not in the file, there is no bids (done by the advertisers) over Adsense in the website and, as such, there is no ad presented to the users.
And, because of this, adsense will not show any ad. Instead, a white space appears.
Of course, Forumotion adsense ads will appear because your ID's are in the file, but for anyone that have they own adsense code, they will not appear.
This is stated here: https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/7532444?hl=en
This can be fixed as you said, but right now, anyone with they own adsense codes are not generating any revenue from the websites...

Domains where an ads.txt file is posted, but the seller’s publisher ID is not authorized in the file are no longer monetized through Ad Exchange, and Google no longer buys ads on such sites. To prevent impact to your earnings, we recommend updating your ads.txt files to include publisher IDs for each site you want to monetize (learn how to update ads.txt in DFP). If you use Network Partner Management, we recommend working with your network partners to include your publisher ID in their ads.txt files.
This can be fixed as you said, but right now, anyone with they own adsense codes are not generating any revenue from the websites...

You're not teaching me anything new
you're basing yourself on what's on the forum right now while I'm talking to you about what's going to happen to change that and make sure that using your own Adsense codes can work on your forums!
So don't burn the steps and be patient. We are still working on it
