Moderate each post?
First topic message reminder :
hey, is there a way of enabling a staff member to check each post before the whole world sees it? i have made a club penguin site and dont want any abusive posts in the forum.

+1 Vote !
Some forums need that, esp if members chose not to follow rules.

Re: Moderate each post?
A lot of other forum services have this and many admins use it for new members.
I think this feature should be included in Forumotion forums. This can also be used for members who abuse the forum. Who maybe you want to restrict their posting rights.
At present the only way to moderate new members or other members posts is to create a usergroup, set group permissions. So they can only post in one forum for new members which is hidden from guests. Then place the user in it so that they can only post in one or two sections of the forum until you move them to another usergroup. But other members can still read the posts.
With this new suggestion only moderators or admins will be able to see the posts, then they can choose to either publish or reject them.

Voted yes. I think this is very useful so long as those who don't want it have the option not to use it.

Re: Moderate each post?
The more members you have and the more posts they generate, the harder this is on the staff to have to sit down and read each post. I wouldn't ask a staff member to sit on my forum 24/7 and read members posts to see if it's okay to approve or not. The more members/posts you have, the longer this would take and the more time you'd have to spend on your forum. I can see how this would prevent the staff from having a life outside the forum and that doesn't seem fair to them.
Re: Moderate each post?
it's a good idea for new members,as new member who have just joined are the ones most likely to spam. post moderation stops them flooding your forum with spam posts. There is also the problem of banned members registering on the forum again with another account. This way you can check their IPs and ban or deactivate their accounts if they are a previously banned members, before they spoil your forum.

In those instances, that is not a bad idea. I can see checking new members, especially to see if they are a banned member trying to come back to your forum. However, in other instances this may not be needed.

Lets not forget that you would only moderate those you wanted as you say and not every member which would take up far too much time.

Re: Moderate each post?
It could be made an option, youtube has it for video submitters, to vet replies before permitting them to be shown

Yes, that's what I meant in my original post. Trying to moderate every single post from every single member would take up so much time that I don't see how you'd be able to have any kind of life.
Re: Moderate each post?
What you can do now on Forumotion forums is create a usergroup for new members. Then set it so they can only post in one or certain sections of the forum.Call the group something like New Members. Then place all new members who have just joined in this group.
Then create a new members forum. You can set it so that the new members section is not visible to guests or the other members. And only visible to users in the new members group, moderators and admins.
Then set the permissions of the other forums so that anyone in the new members group(restricted group) cannot post on the other forums, only in the new members forum.
This will then set it up so that any member moved into the usergroup you just created will not be able to post anywhere except in the new members forum.
Then once you have approved their posts you can move them to the main forum, then move the new users out of the restricted usergroup and into the members group where they will be able to post on the rest of the forum, the same as the other members.
That's what I do on my forum. I am also a member of another Forumotion forum where they have this. So there, when you first join that forum as a new member they can only post in one section of the forum until they are moved to the main members usergroup. Then they can post almost in all the forums.
Well on that forum they have different permissions set up for different usergroups, such as some groups can post in some forums, other cannot. Also some usergroups can have signatures and others cannot.
You can also restrict the posting rights of members who break the rules by moving them into the restricted usergroup. Then they will not be able to post. Or will only be able to post in one section of the forum, until you move them out of the restricted group.
Then create a new members forum. You can set it so that the new members section is not visible to guests or the other members. And only visible to users in the new members group, moderators and admins.

Re: Moderate each post?
Hopefully you would be able to turn this feature off if you don't want it, right? I still voted yes though. And just a thought:
You could moderate an individual user's posts if they're known to spam or be complete arses.

That may not be such a bad idea. If there is a certain individual that is known for spamming your forum in an effort to boost the post count or what not, then you could have it so that all their posts get checked before being added to the rest of the forum. You could call it, "being put on probation", or something to that effect.
Re: Moderate each post?
Most forums such as Phpbb,V Bulletin, and other have the option for admins to place new posts in a moderation queue.Which can be set for individual members.
But if a member is spamming, the only option then is to give them a warning or a ban.

Think it would be a good idea. To either moderate new members, or new posts. I would not mind checking and approving new members/posts for my forum. It would certainly stop spam postings, etc.

There is no pre-specified number of votes for it to be possible. The higher the number of votes, the higher the chance of it getting noticed for its high demand amongst users.Bangernomics wrote:How many votes are needed for this to be a possible?

No actually that isn't true, The laws says Parents have to approve of it. And the kids personal information ( Name, Adress, Etc.) Cannot be published.Guest wrote:I don't mean to go off-topic, but international internet laws state that to join an online community (ie. a Forum) you must be of 13 years or older.swampslayer wrote:Scamite wrote:I don't like this idea. but then it will give the mods another option, because i have a fully kid forum and DONT want any abuse on the forum at all.
Anyway i voted yes, Because this would be handy for some forums. but it could also be annoying
