Re: How to make a moderator to be able to view and moderate one forum?
Hi @teachersupplysolutions
This can be done by playing with the permissions of the users. First go to:
ACP > Users & Groups > Users > Users management > Insert the name of the user you want > Click on it
Now, in the user's profile, click here:
And once you're in there, you'll be able to see the full list of categories/forums/subforums in your actual forum. Please note that in the right side of them there's a place to tick next to the "Is Moderator" text.
Just mark for this user the sections you want him to moderate, and that'll be it!
Also, bear in mind that a new user group will appear in its corresponding section (ACP > Users & Groups > Groups > Groups administration) and it will look like this:
So if you ever wish to edit the permissions of the user you can go over here and change what you need
Best regards.

Hi, and many thanks.
How can I restrict the moderator to that forum only and make it so that he/she cannot see any other forum?
Thanks again.

I'm not sure to understand what you're referring to. You want everyone (guest, members etc) to see the forum X, but you don't want that moderator to see the said X forum?
Best regards.

Re: How to make a moderator to be able to view and moderate one forum?
Apologies.
Let me rephrase it: How can exclude a moderator from all parts of the forum, but not the one he/she is moderating?
Is it possible to exclude certain persons/groups from particular parts of the forum?
Thanks.
Pete

Re: How to make a moderator to be able to view and moderate one forum?
It is possible yes, in the forum permissions (acp-->General-->Categories and forums--> click yellow gear icon in section you want' simply untick that group from being able to view. This only works on a group level, so if you want one group of users to view one section and not another, etc. If its a public section where guests can view, then its not possible since if guests can view it, everyone including members can.

You can place them by going to ACP > Users & Groups > Groups > Groups administration > Click the group you want
And there's a button that says "Add member". Just introduce the name of the user and then click on the button
Also, remember that only one doubt per topic is allowed. If your first doubt has already been solved click the "Mark Solved" button in your first post. You can of course create different topics for different doubts
Best regards

Hi.
I cannot find the 'untick that group' facility to restrict a group from accessing certain parts of the forum?
Thanks.

Is it because I'm on a free package, and only testing the parameters and functions of the site?

Re: How to make a moderator to be able to view and moderate one forum?
Permissions need to be set individually for each forum/section. To do this, you need to hit the yellow or orange gear next the forum/section you want to change the permissions of.
Once you do this, you will be brought to this page, where you will need to click on the permissions tab:
This will then take you to the page with the boxes that you can tick and untick like I said before.
You need to do this for each section you wish change the permissions on.

Re: How to make a moderator to be able to view and moderate one forum?
A section viewable to members will be viewable to all groups. Only way to restrict the abilitity to view a section is by doing un ticking the members box and then choosing the groups you want to see it. The system will assume if members are able to view, then everybody except guests should able to view it and thus not let you untick the boxes.
So to answer your question, no there is no way to restrict the viewing and posting of sections if you wish for normal members to have access to them.
The only work around would be to create a group called members and put all members except those you want to access the section into it. The only problem with that is you would need to manually add new members everytime someone new joined.
