Re: lets all speak french
Euh... what do you mean by "underscore" ?
If you mean "Truly Yours," and stuff, you could replace it by :
Amicalement votre,
(Friendly yours,)
Sincèrement votre,
(Sincerly yours,)
It depends in fact... just tell us what you want, we'll translate

Good evening,
Good subject idea, I don't speak very well the English but I unravel myself.

Bonsoir,
Bonne idée de sujet, je ne parle pas très bien l'anglais mais je me débrouille.

Re: lets all speak french
While we're talking about learning French, we might as well tell those who wrote something incorrectly what their mistake was!
Tandis qu'on parle d'apprendre le français, on pourrait en profiter pour signaler à ceux qui ont écrits quelque chose de manière incorrecte, quelle était leur erreur!
Petit cours d'anglais improvisé: traduire= translate (sorry, I just noticed that mistake and thought it was very pertinent to our discussion! yes I know it's the opposite of what we're doing here! :O )

Bonjour tout le monde, je suis français et j'aimerais me perfectionner en anglais.
Je ne connais pas les règles précises pour ceci mais je pourrais vous dire qu'en anglais c'est un peu différent du français:
On ne dit pas "j'aimerais me perfectionner.." mais plutôt j'aimerais perfectionner mon anglais.."
Donc: I want to perfect my English.
Ne me demandez pas comment çà fonctionne et pourquoi, je le sais seulement parce que çà fait longtemps que je suis famillier avec l'anglais! (je suis francophone).
j'espère que cela vous aide un peu dans votre perfectionnement!
Just like O.Fan, my mother tongue is French, and I'm familiar with English since a long time. In Québec, we have access to English channels on tv, and we begin to learn English at age 9 (I don't know if it has changed, but it was the case when I was in primary school). RPG videogames have given me a helping hand in my written English. More, my grandmother on my father's side was British, and one of my uncles is married with an English Canadian woman, and their two children speak English as their mother tongue. So, I found the usefulness of English quite early.

Re: lets all speak french
The most beautiful girls in the world are French.
Les plus belles filles au monde sont françaises.
-Notice that the adjective "French" (in English) doesn't have an 's'.
The North Americans are split ('divided' is a better term) into three main people or nationalities: Mexicans, Americans and Canadians.
Les nord-américains sont séparés ('divisés' est un meilleur terme) en trois peuples ou nationalités principales: mexicains, américains et canadiens.
In this case the adjectives are plural.
Anyone knows why? And why we don't put capital letters (in French) to nationalities and languages when they are adjectives? And nouns when they're for a language? We say: I speak English, but in French we say: je parle anglais?

Re: lets all speak french
For the first, story of 's', it's because the adjective is after the verb ?
Pour les français, c'est parce qu'il est attribut et l'autre il est épithète, si quelqu'un arrive à traduire...

Re: lets all speak french
A little lesson to learn french:
I = Je
You = Tu
He/She/It = Il/Elle
We = Nous
___ = vous
They = Ils/Elles
Okay, "vous" is a special thing. You use him if you talk to a group of person, for a person you respect or for someone more older then you. Also, french doensn't have It because every words are feminine or masculine.
I'll continue later.

Re: lets all speak french
Lesson 2: don't learn from slang-speaking Quebecers.
There's a lot of that still. It doesn't sound as good as the French you're learning here.
