Why do i need to add members to "member group" manually?

I have a slight problem with having to add a member to the group called "members" manually. Is there anyway to make this automatic so that when a member registers he is automatically add the the correct group which is the "Members group" help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Since you have made a new group called members, you need to manually move members to that group.

If the default members option was working, you would not have had to move it manually.
