HTML in Signatures no longer working?
Greetings ladies and gentlemen,
I've stumbled into this odd problem today as suddenly the html code my members use in their signature doesn't work any longer. I haven't changed anything so I assume some changes might have been made by the fourmotion team.
Anyway below is an example of the code I've been using for almost an entire year without any problems:
But suddenly - if used in a signature - the picture embedded within the code is no longer utilizing the html code and a test has revealed that the signature is changing the above code to the following suddenly if one hits save or preview:
You may notice that it has changed the usual <img scr****> code with the [IMG]-tag automatically and refuses to display the other code as it had done without problems all the months before. I'm at a loss to solve the problem as I've enabled HTML and it has always worked up until now. I'd appreciate any help here. Thank you!
==============
In here I also had to put a space in the <img scr***> code piece to get it displayed within the BBCode code "tag"! Until resolved I've been forced to disable signatures on our rpg forum.

Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry to say but that isn't the problem.
Like I tried to explain in my posting above everything worked fine since the start of our forum almost a year ago without any problem, but out of the blue the html image tags are no longer supported but get changed to BBCode tags as soon as you hit "save" or "preview" and that is what screws up the code we had been using for our signatures.
Btw. if needed I could provide screen shots as well.

Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
Hi,
Why don't you try using your sig in a post and hitting preview, just to see what happens? I've been noticing something funky happening this morning when I'm editing my posts. When I hit preview, the BBc formatting turns into HTML in my post edit box! I didn't think too much of it until I saw your post.
Let's try to get some screen shots posted. 1000 words and all that!

Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
HTML appears to be getting stripped in both posts and signatures. You can't even place it in [code] tags. The strange thing is, it only happens on valid HTML. (I.E. if it has an opening tag and a closing tag on the same line.) I've noticed Forumotion never works with multi-lined HTML in one post for some reason... but now it just entirely strips it. I tested this on embed and iframe, but haven't tested the image yet...
Edit: I should add that everything posted before this stripping happened looks normal...

Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
I have checked normal postings as well now and can confirm that - like with the signatures - it suddenly doesn't seem to work either! As soon as you hit "save" or "preview" it screws up the normal html code that has always worked well and replaces it with BBCode tags that screw things up... - ...I do hope that the forumotion team can get this fixed soon so things work properly again. Thank you!
Oh and here are the screenshots:

Oh and I also noticed the same that Deathspawn did mention - that normal BBCode tags get suddenly turned into html tags after hitting "save" or "preview"! Something is definitely very wrong here....

Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
You arent alone n this one. I am having the exact same issue. Everything that was posted before embed wise is fine but when I try to post say a youtube video via the embed code like I have done before it screws the code up and turns it to BBcode. Just noticed this today myself. Not very good I must say. I hope like crazy that they will jump on this one and get it fixed asap.

Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
Thank you gentlemen for the feedback on this problem so far. It's indeed good to know that I'm not the only one suffering from this rather annoying issue. I too hope it will get solved soon. *keeps his fingers crossed*
In the meantime I've informed the members of the game about this, discouraged them to edit old postings using either HTML or BBCode and asked them to be patient and that other forum owners suffer from the same problems.

Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
Oh, for those of you who have an itching need to post something that requires an embed code during this time of trouble; you can still use the [flash] bbcode, you just have to know what you are doing with it. For example:
YouTube HTML:
Take the part from embed src= and stick it in between a flash bbcode... then replace the numbers for width/height accordingly... like this:
<embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/uAE6Il6OTcs?fs=1&hl=en_US&color1=0x234900&color2=0x4e9e00&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="405">
Shows up as:
Side note: Apparently this got fixed as the HTML in this post wasn't stripped and I just tested it on my forum and it works now... so... silent fix ftw?
YouTube HTML:
- Code:
<object width="500" height="405"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/uAE6Il6OTcs?fs=1&hl=en_US&color1=0x234900&color2=0x4e9e00&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/uAE6Il6OTcs?fs=1&hl=en_US&color1=0x234900&color2=0x4e9e00&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="405"></embed></object>

Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
Nope it's not fixed on all forums yet.
Edit
Nope I was wrong, it works now. Just not in both modes yet.

Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
Have noticed that, apart from 19thcentury who doesn't mention which browser they are using, you all seem to be using Firefox. There was a similar problem but in reverse ie BBCode turning to html, with Chrome a few months back. It was soon rectified.
Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
I think Forumotion has been messing with the forums today, because all kinds of strange things have happened.

Someone from the staff of other support forum already reported this to the techs, so we need to wait for techs to fix it.

Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
Ah sorry forgot to mention the browser - I'm using Opera (have been using that browser for many years now).
========================
I just tested the various problems today once again and have found that:
- the problem with normal postings formatted with either HTML and/or BBCode seems to have been fixed since it doesn't change automatically anymore after hitting "preview" or "save"
- the problem with the signatures still exists like described above (HTML gets swamped automatically with BBCode after hitting "preview" or "save" thus screwing up the intended formatting

Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
Could it be that posting font changes after 2 or more replys from user? It gets suddenly bold/italic and dunno why. Im hoping its related to the issues you guys are having.

Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
Another test-run i just did to check if things have been solved showed that the normal postings seem to work alright now, but the signature html-autoswitch-to-BBCode-Problem (described above) still remains and is screwing up the formatting badly.

My main browser is Fire Fox but I do still use IE 8 as well. Have to have 2 browsers anymore to make sure the custom html pages work properly. I know I had an issue with them working in Fire fox but not in IE and it was flash related. So I wouldnt have known about it unless I used both. Good thing too. But it was a simple fix.
Also the loss of the Center tags in html is still a loss for those that like to keep vids or pics in the center of a post to keep things looking neat. So it will be a big loss to some.

Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
It looks like the forumotion technicians have been able to solve the problems. I've just tested both normal postings as well as signatures with both BBCode and HTML and things are back to normal (the different codes don't get swamped automatically anymore and thus the formatting is working again)! THANKS!!! *is happy*
Can any of you who have replied confirm that your forums are back to normal as well? If yes we can set this topic to "solved" and it can be locked by the moderators.

Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
It's still not back to 100% like it was. Sometimes it works and other times it dosent. And that was in IE and FF.

Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
Yes I can confirm the problem with PMs and HTML/BBCode formatting - they seem to suffer from the same problems that had troubled both normal postings and the signatures. In my case the troubles are signatures attached to PMs - their HTML formatting is screwed like described above. So it seems things haven't been fixed 100% yet....
issue with the PMs is still persistent
I did another test today to check if all the issues have finally been solved but have found that the issue with the Private Messages (PMs) that boffer10 did report in is still persistent. Here HTML and BBCode still don't work and get screwed up like in boffer10's example, also signatures attached to PMs get screwed up (even if they work fine attached to normal postings). The rest - both normal postings and signatures attached to normal postings work alright with both HTML and BBCode in them.
Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
Another test has shown that the issue with PMs that boffer10 has reported on August 26th 2010, 5:46 pm and that I've noticed (regarding HTML signatures that are attached to PMs and that are screwed now) as well is still persistent.
Here's a screenshot - the signature of course is added "automatically" to every mail:
Again it has worked fine up till the problems with the HTML - BBCode started and then it stopped working.

Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
Just noticed due to having sent a PM with the Signature attached, that the problem with screwed Signatures still prevails. They are alright with normal postings but attached to the PMs their HTML code is screwed... - ...is anyone also still experiencing this problem?!
Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
I just tried to PM the same code I posted above. Today, it worked.
Re: HTML in Signatures no longer working?
Thank you for the answer boffer10 - looks like the only issue remaining is Signatures (featuring HTML formatting) that are being attached to PMs get screwed (like shown in the above screenshot). It's strange since the rest seems to work fine now. Obviously something must still be broken or it would work.
