Admin won't delete!!

Hello, I recently had an admin leave my forums and I've already attempted removing him from the administrator's group. Problem is, it isn't giving me any "user has successfully been removed" or similar messages, though appears to have been removed. I close the window, reopen the group administration only to find he's back. I'm not sure what black magic this is but can anyone shed some light on what's going on here?

No, you misunderstand, he is not the founder... I am. Despite this fact, I can do nothing to remove him or any other admin from the group...

Hmm, maybe you had edited only the rank, but you need to remove him from gruop of the administrators. Can you take a screenshot to the Groups, and how you remove him?

I don't believe it to be user error but rather an issue with the panel not correctly editing the database...

Well, rather returning to the admin panel and drilling my way back to the group administration. Refresh doesn't work...

Try with another browser, it should work.

I did with internet explorer. It didn't work there either...

Also, perhaps unrelated, it went into maintenance mode for a few minutes during that time. I didn't do it, it just displayed a "the forums are under maintenance, please see our support forums for more info, yada yada"

and it's not just me, he can't remove himself either, and he got the same maintenance message around that time as well...

Did you have this member as a moderator for anything? If he/her was, then you need to remove the moderation power.

Could you please re-sync the forum to the server - it may be a case that it's lost partial contact, which can cause similar issues.
Admin panel >> General > Forum/Config > (Scroll down) Misc > Tick the box ' Resync' and save.

Now, re-do the account deletion and let us know the results

Yes, he is a moderator. However that should not affect my ability to disable him as an administrator. I've done so before without any issues so I'm thinking something broke... and recently.

Alright, I've done as you've asked however it still won't delete.


EDIT: I tested deleting moderators... that works... just not admins. ANY admins, I tested on another one as well...

In order to delete an account, it has to have privileges - (s)he must be at a default member status.

Or is the account already a member with no additional powers?

I don't want to delete the account. I want to un-admin him... and I can't. That is the problem here.

He has the default powers of the administration group, which is full-access. He's not a group moderator either in case that question comes up...

Try doing it in admin panel?

The alternative way to remove him from the admin group is via personal permissions.
Admin panel >> Users & Groups > Search users > Click on the user, then click on 'Permissions' and if it says "Administrator" change it to "User" and save.

If it changes back, I think we'll be needing some technical intervention. Sorry

Alright, that worked. However it stills concerns me that I can not delete admins as per the usual method. So although this is technically solved, can someone push this to the technician needed area so it can be properly fixed?

How did you allow admins in the first place? Did you do it by the group method or the way Darren posted? One the two will work, so not really something that needs to be pushed out to the techs.

Ok, let me explain a little further. The original founder is named Tanju. Tanju left and passed his account down to the next head admin as a means of security. We only use the founder account for emergencies. I was admined by the admin I wish to remove, Sal. He recently quit and left me the site and all the utilities and the founder account. I've unadmined him before when he took a break and I had no problem changing his group status before... I've been admining for years and I am familiar with all the commands. I'm trying to explain something is not working as it normally does. I KNOW it is not working as it should. Could someone PLEASE take a look into the coding and find out what recently went wrong. The URL is www.thebleachworld.darkbb.com. If an administrator needs to do any maintenance, I'd be happy to schedule one and let him examine the code.

Did he get added back to the group, or are you just asking why it did not work the way you did it?

Upon changing his account permissions, he was removed from the administrator group. So the larger part of my problem is solved... However I'd like to be able to change it through the group administration because it's more user friendly to add and remove names rather than going around and setting everyone's permissions so that they can be admins or not.

It works for the moderators group. What's the difference between the two, what could be going wrong that's making this anomaly take place. Also I'd like to apologize if my previous post sounded a bit rude, I was a tad bit drunkered at the time. Now then, are there any possible solutions you can think of that could fix the issue?

The deal with removing accounts is -
You can (in the pas as u have done so, and I too) remove mods without removing their permissions, but I don't believe you have ever been able to remove an admin right out without removing his powers, as I ahve never had the ability to do so, and I have in the past attempted to remove someone whom I forgot I made a hidden administrator to assist me with things when I needed a hand to look affter the forum whilst I was away with no notice (which Is till do frequently now ).
Ive never been able to remove that such account without removing his admin powers.

I'm sure it could've been a temprary thing the techs did, where they did allow an admin to be removed without removing his powers, but I'm not aware of this ever being able to be done so.

Mario, can you confirm with Godfather, or otherwise get his attention to get a final verdict on the issue please?

I'm almost 100% sure I've added and removed users with ONLY the administrator group control before. As I test, (now that I know an alternative way to remove them) add a new user account (one I make, don't worry) as an admin as per the group method and attempt a removal as per the same group method. If it doesn't work, then I KNOW something is wrong...

Spoiler:

After adding a new user account to the administrator group through the group administration method I found that it did add the user, however... even seconds later I am unable to remove the user I've just added (save the permissions method).

This confirms that there should be no reason for this outcome on my part. However it leaves even more confusion as to how the problem even arises... How am I able to ADD someone and yet not REMOVE them? And why does it only apply to the Admins and not the Mods?

Seems I'm needed here, well allow me to take a swing at this.


So you want to remove an Admin, but you can't. Okay, your using the founder account I take it, which is good. Now


There is the type of Admin which is added to the "Original Admin Group" Which has admin CP access and then sometimes people add another after hiding that one, so you add them to both groups. Might wanna check that out, also which one are you using?

Admin CP>Users and Groups>Group Administration

OR

Index>Admin>Manage


I suggest using the Admin CP one, but whichever one your using, I'd like to let you know it may be a glitch, some forums get those.
