Solved Can I ban a user from a specific topic

Post by Guardian-Angel June 12th 2014, 1:48 am

Hi there

Is it possible to ban a user from a specific topic or category but have access to the rest of the forum?

Thanks

Create a group and add that member.  Then set the forum permissions for that group.

Hi,
Create a new user group etc. Warning, change the permissions of this group to don't have access in the category which you want. Then add the member in the Warning group. Somewhere I was found a JavaScript which you can ban a member from a topic, if I find it I will post it here.

I think this would also need to be posted in the suggestions area.. reasoning.. I just tested this via a nondescript user of mine. I went to his profile and opened his "permissions" settings.. Currently the only thing I noticed is at the bottom of the simple permissions one would see only two options.. Mark All & Unmark All.. I think this should be allowed or open to select specific areas based on the users participation.
However I would suggest that you inform said user that he or she has been restricted to certain areas of the forum.

That is why you have to create a group and add that member to it.  Then set the permissions for that group.

Just create a group, mark it hidden, set permissions to prevent said group from posting in that particular forum, then add that user to it and remove him/her from any other groups he/she might be in that allow posting. And done, that user cannot post in that particular topic, but will be able to post everywhere else you have allowed.
