Guests viewing forums against permissions

When the problem appeared : 2:30pm CT, February 23rd. No changes made to forum in last 24 hours.

Description of problem

I have permissions on each forum set to members or above only. When I click forum permission controls and check the guest setting, every single box is marked "no."

I have all rights under "special rights" set to members or above.

Yet, I still have a guest wandering in my forums. I do not want guests in my forums. What have I missed?

Do you mean guests posting in the forum or viewing it?

Viewing, which they also don't have permission to do.

if you mean because they show in the who's online section at the bottom of the index. then that's normal it just means they are on your forum it don't mean they can see anything

No, TM, as it shows in the photo I attached to the support request, the guest in question is in one of our forums marked "home and hearth".

nm you missed the U in forumotion .. anyways i went to your forum and im unable to see anything every time i try to go anywhere it just redirects me back to the login so i have no idea unless someone registered on your forum with the user name Guest

Oops, sorry about the typo. That does make it harder!

I have it set to require admin approval for registration, so unless they changed it after-the-fact, they didn't register with that name, although it'd be funny to change my name to "guest" periodically just to freak the nice ladies out.

Oh well, I IP-banned them, so if it was a regular user I hope they let me know. Smile

It could be a member who has unsubscribed from the forum. Their posts will show guest.

That is very interesting, SLGray. Hopefully that's the answer. I'll leave them IP banned and see if we've lost anyone or if they complain about being banned.

It could also be a member who's went offline via timeout e.g. not moved off a page for 'X' length of time, I believe that would show them as a guest after awhile even though they're technically not browsing anything.

Even if it shows guests viewing non-guest areas, they will not see the page, but the log in page.

Unless the settings were set in way that forum itself is hidden, the topics can still be read (if you have the link that is).

Well, I IP-banned them and we have no members complaining that they have no access and our numbers are still the same. So...weirdness abounds.

I don't know that we'll ever know what it was, but I really appreciate all of the suggestions.
