Favorite Free forums system?

I have used a couple of free system forums. One of them is Forumotion and it is the best by far!

My best experiences have been forumotion, but I also work on proboards and jnick, which also are great forum hosts if you are into something a bit more advanced. But I still come back to forumotion, it just to classic to leave.

What does WP stand for?

I believe Ace1 is referring to WordPress.

WordPress is the most popular blogging system. Unless you use bbPress and WordPress in order to create a community.
Personally, I do not believe that it is very user-friendly. 

Yeah Sl's right, WP = Wordpress its actually very user-friendly if you buy the Custom Design ($99/mo) LOL

But even if you don't its still cool. You can edit your site's HTML (CSS comes with Custom Design)

Forumotion is by far the best one i have ever used.

I'm Blogger user, and Forumotion the first forum platform I use I like FM because it's free and stable operation, great community support. This year, I will buy some FM services to use.

You can create blogs on Forumotion forums.  I know that is not the same as a blog site.

I used to have a ProBoards forum, but it didn't let me use personalized awards, so I left it and I was so happy when I stumbled upon Forumotion. Too bad my forum died by now. </3

This is not the place for support question.  Please open a topic in the support section.  What I mean by blog is that you can create a blog instead a forum in the administration panel if you have activated the blog option.

I have used another ..won't name them here but they are much superior,my current sites with fourmotion are just secondary sites as far as I.m concerned used to redirect when needed,the so called "big brother tool" ..online guardian is fortunately only related to this host provider despite what they will tell you

Onlineguardian is not part of Forumotion.  Onlineguardian works on all sites, forums, blogs, etc.  If you look closely, you exactly can get software for yourselves to block certain sites, forums, blogs, etc.

Yes so I took a closer look found no sites recognized by online gaurdian, also found this

Why should i move from forumotion.com? There are many reasons to this! I’m only going to list a few.
1.) Database problems.
You will never get your database from forumotion.No matter how hard you try they just wont give it too you.
Why do you need your database?
Well if you’re not happy with forumotion or want a cheaper host, you won’t be able to switch since forumotion owns your database.
2.)Ban problems.
Forumotion has a third party program implemented called “online guardian” online guardian has the right to ban any website that breaks forumotions rules.
The possible deletion reasons are as following :
* Violent or repulsive content
* Hateful or abusive content
* Defamatory content and / or affecting the integrity of a person
* Sexual and/or pornographic content
* Harmful and dangerous acts
* Copyright infringment
* Spam
* Phishing and/ or malware website
* Credit card fraud
* Hacking
Now this sounds good but what this means is if a random member on your website goes and posts porn on your website. and you somehow miss it, they’ll send you a warning and if you don’t remove it in time you’ll get ban. The stupid part is they don’t tell you  where and how your breaking the rules, and they don’t just ban the member for you they ban your forum. This can lead to many problems.
3.) Looking bad.
Many forumotion website are stuck at 500+ members and 30 thousand posts.Wonder why? This is because people simply don’t want to join a website by forumotion, no matter how much traffic they get.
4.) Money drain.
Forumotion expects you to buy a domain from them which is overly priced. They pretty much overpriced everything. They expect you to pay 20$ a year to remove their advertisements when you can remove advertisements for free with http://www.x10hosting.com
5.) Being bad.
Forumotion is running on the worst forum software out their.
These include phpbb phpbb3 and more.Users simply don’t want phpbb they lack many features and have the most vulnerabilities.Forumotion does add on to it heavily but they’re still just not user friendly.
It’s not even about that, when people know your running on forumotion.com they look down on you.They know your just trying to do it the “easy” way.
Nothing nice in life is easy or free.
What are you waiting for? This should be enough to make the switch. We suggest you  choose mybb.

That article was posted in 2011 and is far outdated. FM has seen many updates and many improvements.

I know for a fact that Onlineguardian is used by other hosts.  The reason why I know is because a forum I created with a different host was ban by Onlineguardian.  Also a forum hosted by Zetaboard that I was a member of was ban by Onlineguardian.

I've tried a couple before FM but preferred FMs easy design and layout. I tried FreeForums org but was never a fan of it.

Nope...just use FM #forum.

to be honest i tried VB but was not the goal i wished for easy to get hacked or the host remove it after a while
then i find by luck forumotion the Arabic one i make my forum and i was real happy
so easy so fast i didnt care about the ads or the forumotion copyrights even till now these 2 things dose not bother me
but what is really bothering is the way to active new members the template Editing as far as you know the Arabic forumotion dose not allow Edit template unless you pay 500 credits and the way to active new members is the most hard part i started to look for other way and i find MyBB forum system i tried some other kind of forums after forumotion as i said ill be honest and wont hide any thing my final stop was MyBB its good can active member just when register can add a topic by itself to welcome the new member and easy to use

Hello, do you have a favorite forum system(s)? If so what is it and why did you join? I'll go first, mine is/was FreeForums, until i figured out that they didn't have everything i wanted. Then I switched to Forumotion.
