Solved Does having a heavy basket slow down the forum?

Post by Chelly March 15th 2017, 1:04 am

We've made it a habit to try and save all info as possible in case we needed to refer to it for whatever reason. We usually just toss everything in the basket and only need to take anything back out occasionally.

We've got about 5 years worth of old threads/posts in there and was wondering if having all of that sitting there would slow down the forum in anyway?

If not, we won't worry about tackling the process of deleting everything over a year old.

Our forum is a pretty popular forum with about 26k members, so when I say there's a lot of stuff in there just collecting dust, there's a lot.

No it don't really slow you down it is just saved server side until you call it up.

My Advice is to do a clean up at least once a year of post you know your never use again to save space on our servers, But it is not a must do thou so if you don't want to then Don't.

Alright.

We're trying to improve the forums optimization to keep loading times as short as possible and we thought that might help. Our speeds aren't too terrible right now, but it feels like it's getting a bit sluggish and could use a tune up if you will.

I might just need to go through all of our coding to make sure we don't have anything unnecessary in there loading up when people come to our forum.

Thanks for the response!

Yeah, codes and sometimes even large images can cause sites to load a bit slower as it can take the web browser a bit longer to load codes and images then anything else. Tooics usually dont have any relevance in speed and our service is capable of handling a few million or more posts and topics per forum. Wink

May we consider this solved as well?
