Question about category descriptions?
Hi Peeps,
I just had a question about making a category title a clickable link and Sanket and Nimiel helped me with that but now I'm curious....
You are allowed to write a description for your category but what purpose does this serve? When I put a description for my category, it doesn't show up anywhere on my forum?

Re: Question about category descriptions?
This has always had me wondering too. But honestly, I have absolutely no idea what purpose it serves.

Re: Question about category descriptions?
I am also wondering about this, Where can I see it in my forum?
Re: Question about category descriptions?
Hi Nimiel,
I think there is some confusion here. The picture you provided showing the descriptions was for the forums, not the categories. My forum looks like this too with descriptions of each forum. The category is the main "branch" from which the "leaves" grow on.
If you go into your admin panel and look at your categories, there is a field there to fill out for descriptions that is completely separate from forum descriptions.
I hope I have explained this correctly.
Sincerely and with regards

Re: Question about category descriptions?
Brad,
I don't know if it depends on the version you are using.
I am using phpbb3
I just went to play around since you posted.
I added something to the CAT. description.
with index packing: split cat. on forums-none and med, there was no change.
as well as with the keep cat. on index. none and med didn't show the description
Choosing FULL for either keep or split cat on index resulted in the description showing up.
so I'm thinking nimiel was right

Re: Question about category descriptions?
Hi Psi-chotic,
Maybe you are right about having to set categories on full to see the category descriptions. Mine are set to show medium splitting and that is the way I prefer it. It's just that my forum looks the same as Nimiel's. To me, and from Nimiel's photo, it's the forums that are showing the descriptions, not the categories.
I'm using Phpbb3 too.
