Amin Security Problem
Hi! I am a brand new administrator of a brand new forum, I am 76 years old so please be patient if I am treading old ground.
When any member signs on they can find the 'First Category' link which advises them how to access the 'Admin section', therefore anyone can type in admin and the password automatically fills in giving them access to the Administrator Panel. I have not been able to either remove the Category without losing the sub forums it contains or stop my password form automatically filling in. I have tried clicking off the 'log me in automatically' box but it still occurs.
I am almost certainly missing something, so any pointers would be gratefully received.
Thanks.

Hello,
I'm not sure what is the situation, but anyone can get to your admin panel if they guess your admin password. Can you tell us what is this 'First Category' link? A screenshot would help. When any member signs on they can find the 'First Category' link which advises them how to access the 'Admin section', therefore anyone can type in admin and the password automatically fills in giving them access to the Administrator Panel.
Again, providing a screenshot of the current structure of the forum may help us determine a solution for your problem. Thank you.I have not been able to either remove the Category without losing the sub forums it contains or stop my password form automatically filling in. I seemed to have solved the problem, however, in doing so I deleted all of the posts on the site, while trying to rationalise my categories and forums. Never mind it is still fairly new so not too much has been lost.
Always happy to receive advice,

I have replied to Yuri on this one already thank you, but to be honest I have no idea on how to send a screen shot anyway.
Many thanks for your reply,
Kind regards,

Re: Amin Security Problem
Were you referring to the first topic which is created when yo first create your forum? Even if members pressed the link to the administration panel, they would get an error message.

I tried it as a 'member' using my own username and password, and still managed to get into the admin panel.SLGray wrote:Were you referring to the first topic which is created when yo first create your forum? Did you use the log in information of the founder account?

My member details, same e-mail and my password, which is of course different to my admin password.
As I explained in my first post at 76 I'm not the most techy of people.
Cheers,

Are you should that you was not using the founder account instead of a member account?

SLGray wrote:Are you should that you was not using the founder account instead of a member account?
I seem to remember that when I first set up the account I used an e-mail address and set up a user name and a password, and then simply used a different password when signing in as Administrator. I did this when I followed the instructions in the First Category forum, which (as you know) advises to log in as admin and use a password. I suppose the only difference was the passwords. Maybe that is what caused the problem, however, while trying to organise and add forums I managed to delete everything, and had to enter fresh category and forums. At the moment I do not have a problem, so I must have done something wrong in the initial set-up procedure.
Would it be possible to restore the deleted posts?
I appreciate your help, and am very pleased with Forumotion.
Thank you,
Bob.

You can try restoring the forum to an earlier date - https://www.forumotion.com/utils .

I have just carried out a restore operation to try and get back to a stage where I can log-on as admin again, however no matter what I do in terms of e-mail/password nothing is recognised by the site.
I really need to start again somehow. I need to confirm a relevant e-mail address and set up a new password as Adminsitrator. I am able to log-on as a member and use the forum as normal, but not as admin.
As I can not enter the site as admin I am unable to do anything.
I click log-in 'admin' password fills in click log in and it tells me that details are invalid our out of date.
I try entering user name (damned1), click 'forgotten password'. Next screen; 'enter user name' OK, enter e-mail address, invalid not recognised. I'm stumped.
Can I supply any further information that would help you identify my problem?
Cheers,
Bob OAP.

Re: Amin Security Problem
When you restore the forum to earlier date, it resets your log in information back to the original information (the one when you create the forum).
Username: Admin

I'm climbing the wallSLGray wrote:When you restore the forum to earlier date, it resets your log in information back to the original information (the one when you create the forum).

You recently sent me a new password to reset my admin account, I logged on and entered the new password, and then changed it something more memorable. This enable me to log-on as admin, HOWEVER, it only worked once, and I am back to the same old problem of being unable to administer my forum, and causing members a lot of problems as well.
I have tried forum restore to the earliest and latest versions without success.
Currently it is restored to the 30/03/2014 version. Is it possible that if you sent me another new password and I logged and changed it, order would be restored and I could carry on as normal?
I wonder if it is me having tried several 'restores' that are causing me this problem.
I am sure you better things to do than help a doddering pensioner (me), so I really appreciate you help and patience.
Kind regards,
Bob. (damned1)

Still cannot access my admin account, normal 'Forgotten Password' procedure will not recognise my e-mail address. What can I do?

No matter what I do I am constantly receiving messages that tell me that Forumotion does not recognise my e-mail address, even though I receive notifications from you. When I try to log on to the utilities I am now being told it does not recognise either my user name or the password. I have tried everything that I can understand on your 'password problems' page, however, I just get into a bigger and bigger mess.
User name (as I remember it) damned1, password since last restore, 58MJHwc, e-mail address; E-mail removed URL http://goodoldboys.forumotion.co.uk
I would hate to scrub the whole Forum and start afresh, as that would lose all the members, messages etc, and cause endless problems, however, as it stands I can see no alternative. Surely there is a SIMPLE means of restoring my Administrator details?
Can you confirm what e-mail you have for Admin, as if Forumotion would recognise this I might be able to use the 'forgotten password' facility, as it is trying it always brings up the e-mail not recognised message.
I am too old to be grappling with this technology, which is a shame as your software and is great and I was/am so pleased that it was easy to start a much wanted forum.
Many thanks for you help and patience.
