Solved Announcements...Basic & Global

Post by Bloodhound1958 November 18th 2011, 3:15 am

I just realised as our forum takes shape that I no longer have the option to make a post an announcement let alone a global announcement. Even posts I try and edit don't give me the option. I tired editing an announcement made earlier and even that doens't have it. Could I have somehow disabled the option in our threads and posts?

Are you the owner of that forum?
It's a big wonder if you are the admin and you can't edit any stickies, announcements, or global announcements.

I am indeed the owner. Absolutely no ability to edit any stickies or announcements. Is there a way to directly request help from support? Is this a technical issue?

As the forum owner, you should always have access to creating (global) announcements regardless of permissions. Could you provide a screenshot showing me the options you see? Smile

Maybe you renamed it. I mean Administration Panel => General => => Messages and emails => Configuration => Customize a global announcement name. Smile

Here's a screenshot of my trying to make a post in our News and Announcements section and one of the ACP...
Sorry for the bad pictures. If you look you'll see OPTIONS has nothing beneath it and I have not renamed the stickies, announcements etc. I even tried to edit the one and only global announcement I made when I first setup the forum 12 days ago and there's NO OPTIONS to do so.

Does the Options have a + symbol somewhere on that section?

No, no plus options. All I've modified was the removal of the code for "last edited time and setup new categories and forums.

Hi, would it be possible to send me through private message, a test admin account so that I can see this myself?

That's okay. If you don't wish to authorise me then that's your choice. Wink

In that case, have you added any codes or modified any templates recently which may be causing this?

I see you are a Support Moderator. I would assume you have that position because you are part of the support staff and can be trusted. Please register and I will give you Admin status.

I have added a few codes in the templates:

1.) Display post last edited (Removed)
2.) Added code for podcast.

Add the code back to show the last edit by. Maybe there is a code conflict.

OK... I deleted the custom template in Viewtopic body. I assume the default template automatically took its place. I've attempted to post and there is still no option to denote as an announcement, sticky or global.

Thank you. I have just been on your forum and I've found the problem. You haven't got a button for the Options bar in the post editor.

The options for announcement and global announcement are still there, but the button to open up the options is not there. I'm not sure how to add the button, so you'll need to wait for someone else to help you or wait for me to find out. Smile

Thank You base. What do you recommend I do from here? Is there another section I should post in or continue to watch this topic? I cant thank you enough for identifying the issue. I wish I could be of more help in finding the solution. We're new here and I can't beleive...no let me rephrase that I am SHOCKED at the level of support here. We have been with informe since 2005 and getting support takes weeks if your lucky enough to get passed the language barrier. Our forum crashed and they have done nothing to fix it. We've lost 1000s of members, posts and history. I think we'll stay right here from now on and rebuild where there's a team of folks who help eachother.

Base,

Guess what? I changed the forum version to phpbb3 and the option is there. If I go back to Phpbb2 it goes bye bye. What do you think as far as fixing it?

Some good news, I have found out how to fix your problem. You will need to manually add the images yourself at:

1. Administration Panel (advanced mode)
2. Display Tab
3. Pics management - advanced mode (on the left, under Pictures and Colors)
4. Mini-icons
5. Add images for the '-' and '+' fields

Here are the default images you can use:

Okay, I have fixed the problem for you. There should now be an image on the Options bar that allows you to open and close it, therefore giving you access to the announcement options. I've just tried it and it works. Smile
