Functioning of the Toolbar and notifications

This tutorial is here to give you more information about the Forumotion Toolbar and its Notifications center.

1. The ToolBar:

This option will quickly become a must have for most forums! The Forumotion ToolBar contains social sharing buttons (which guarantees an optimal visibility on the web), a search engine and many shortcuts to manage your profile.

The activation of the Toolbar is done via the Admin Panel >> Modules >> ToolBar >> Configuration >> Activate the toolbar. With the choice to let it be fixed at the top of all forum pages or make it "floating" (moving while you scroll).

Spoiler:

General features of the toolbar are as follows :

- The icon and the service name redirects to www.forumotion.com
- Clicking the magnifying glass moves the cursor to the search bar
- Validation of the research is done via the "Enter" key on the keyboard
- The search window makes a research on topics titles
- The Facebook button shares the current page on Facebook
- The Twitter button opens the Twitter sharing page
- The Google+ button shares the current page on Google+
- The @ button opens the webmail client of the user, specifying the URL of the forum page you are on
- The RSS button opens the RSS feed of the forum
- The arrow "↑" hides the Toolbar
- The arrow "↓" displays the Toolbar

In non-logged mode :

- The Log In button redirects to the log in page
- The Register button redirect to the register page

In logged mode :

- In the Welcome menu, the username of the member is limited to 15 characters, or 12 + "..."
- The Welcome menu contains the options :
  • View my profile: which redirects to the public profile of the user
  • Edit my profile: which redirects to the preference tab of the user profile edition
  • All my topics which redirects to all the topics the user has posted in
  • All my messages: which redirects to all the user's messages
  • My watched topics: which redirects to all the watched topics of the user
  • Administration Panel: which redirects to the Admin Panel, only if the user has the Admin rights (the option isn't displayed if the user hasn't got the administration rights)
  • Log out: which redirects to the log out page.

The personalization of the toolbar color is possible through the CSS stylesheet of the forum (Admin Panel >> Display >> Pictures and Colors >> Colors >> CSS Stylesheet) by adding the following code :

  • Case of a color as background for the toolbar :
    Code:
    #fa_toolbar, #fa_toolbar_hidden {background-color: #xxxxxx !important;}

#xxxxxx is corresponding to the hexadecimal code of the color.

  • Using a background image as the background of the toolbar :
    Code:
    #fa_toolbar, #fa_toolbar_hidden {background: url('http://image_url');}

Functioning of the Toolbar and Notifications 64x64_13 Important note:

There's an important note to take into account about the toolbar display:

  • Admins which have forums in the versions PhpBB2 & PunBB with the template overall_header personalized, must absolutely be sure that the tag {HOSTING_JS} between the 2 tags <head>...</head>is existing in the template so that the toolbar can be functional.

2. The notification center:

Spoiler:
There is also a notification center for your forum. It informs you almost instantaneously of the receiving of a friend request, a private message, a profile message, a message in a watched topic, a request to join a group, an abuse reported on the forum, and even when your friends log into the forum!

  • friend requests
  • private messages
  • profile messages
  • messages in a watched topic
  • requests to join a group
  • abuses sent on the forum
  • new reports
  • when your friends log in to the forum

The notification center is managed directly from the toolbar in the tab "Notifications", after having activate the toolbar. You can choose there all the notifications that you want to receive.

Spoiler:

Warning: Notifications are inseparable from the Toolbar, which means they will not function without the toolbar being enabled on the forum and shed after 60 days.

Different kind of notifications:

- New private message : Announces the receipt of a new PM.

Text :"You have received a new PM from XXXXXX" ( XXXXX = username of the sender)

Functioning of the Toolbar and Notifications 64x64_13 Important note:

There's an important note to take into account about the customization of the Toolbar:

  • We remind that this is absolutely forbidden and against our TOS to remove the Forumotion's Copyrights from the Toolbar (icon + link).
However, you have to know that after your requests to be able to remove the copyrights legally, we are actually working on a solution which should be set up soon. Wink
