ok folks,

this is getting ridiculous at this stage and i just cant seem to
find the answers.... i put up a thread on here a few weeks back
and in fairness to "buttercup", we thought we might have solved
it but thats not the case....... we thought it was something to do
with the autoprune feature on my site but even after resetting this
feature, the problem is still there.... it seems that im one of the only
ones having this problem cause i have searched on here and cant find
a solution and ive also searched in my admin panel, again no luck.....!!!
ive checked my logs and no member of staff have changed any setting
in the admin panel either so im all out of ideas after nearly 3 weeks solid
trying to find this problem....!!!!

-------------------------------

*to bring people up to speed, heres my problem:

my site is cleaning itself way too much on a daily basis and this only happens
when a member of our admin team comes online.. they dont have to be logged
out for this to happen.. just come online and click on new posts and nothing, "no
new posts/threads"...... this effects everybody on the site, members and staff...
we have been live with forumotion since 2010 and never had any problems but in
the last month or so, this has happened and its crippling my site..!!!! we have 6 on
our admin team and all these people come online up to 5 times a day so do the maths,
the site cleans itself up to 30 times on any given day...!!!! my site seens alot of traffic
on a daily basis but this is effecting it big time as well as been a bloody nuisance.... !!!!

---------------------------------------

this is what members/staff see up to 30 times a day, i cant explain it more clearly.!!!!!!!

New posts problems Forum_zps5c6a9f7a

---------------------

ADMIN STAFF:
1. founder
2. main admin (me, ive taken over the site, founder still active)
3. 2 general admin
4. 2 supermoderators

**all of the above have admin powers**

-----------------------

guys, i run one of irelands most popular and loved car forums.. we have a wealth of information on
our site.... we are also one of the busiest car forums in ireland............... if we can not solve this
problem.............. im afraid im going to have to pull the plug cause at this stage, all ive worked for
and all my staff have worked for since 2010 is becoming nothing.... this problem is making our forum
look dead daily.....  Evil or Very Mad

i would like this sorted please,

cheers,

john......

Have you modified the new post link? I mean are you using the original link that is part of the theme, or are you using one that you have created?

the founder created that near the start (2010) so i cant imagine it been that especially when this is only happening the last month or so.. and it was never modified since...

thanks for the reply

EDIT: ment to say too that once we are online, the forum doesnt clean itself even if we do click on new posts.. it seems only when one of the 6 of us have been offline for a certain time, then come back online, it happens!

Wait a minute:

If you do not read all the new posts while logged on, then when you log off the missed new posts will not show as new when you log back on again.

SLGray is correct, when you log into the forum all posts you missed while logged out will display under 'newposts' for that session and that session only. Once you have logged out it will clear those topics from the list for that visit, unless of course new posts have been made while you were gone.

That is why the texts is "View posts since last visit"

guys,

we dont log off the site via the logout feature... this appears this way for everybody, not just the 6 of us... im sorry if i cant explain it any better but this was never a problem... this has only happened the last month...!! i know that feature where you can view posts since last visit but we never had to use it so why now..?? i set up a standard member account myself and got one of my admin team to come online (he wasnt logged out, just simply came online).. again, the forum cleaned itself, "no posts",, (all explained in my first post here)... the picture ive added above is what everybody sees when they come online, the forum looks dead up to 30 times a day depending on how many times admin come online..!!!!.. before this happened, we could have 5 or 6 pages of threads/topics on the main forum on a daily basis before the forum cleaned itself.. now weir lucky to even get half a page on a daily basis.... ive asked all my staff and have also put up a thread on the main forum asking members about this and everybody said the same thing... ("very annoying", "looks like a dead site", this never happened before" etc etc etc")... am i going mad or something?? no, this is something thats only happened recently so something is wrong.... ive looked after that site for years and never had any problems with it... any little problem i had, i dealt with it swiftly.. this has me stumped and i cant fix it........ we used to have up to and over 200 people online on any given day, since this has happened, weir lucky to have 20 or 30 people.. they come online, see no posts and go elsewhere... i know this cause i do it myself on other car forums.. who wants to come onto a car forum thats not active..?? Crying or Very sad

my only other choice is to demote my other 4 admin team (not founder) to moderators cause this doest happen when moderators come online.. that way, the forum would only clean itself "no posts" when myself or the founder comes online.. but thats something of a last resort and i dont really want to do that so would like to try and solve this before i have to make that decision...

please ask as many question as yee like cause i still think weir not on the same page here but everybody on my site cant be wrong..!!

p.s. im sorry if i come across as narky but im just trying to save my site from dying at this stage!!

just to add to this.. if one of the 6 of us stay on line all day.. the forum wont clean itself when other admin come online.. if all 6 of us are offline and any of us come online, then theres no posts on the main forum.. again, we dont have to be logged out for this to happen and again, this effects everybody, staff and all members.......

cheers buttercup Smile

again just to add to this as im finding out things as i go along, when myself or the others come online and theres no new posts, when we click on "view posts since last visit", its the same.. no posts.... so there has to be something up.....

im just after coming back online and didnt go near the new posts button, i clicked on "view posts since last visit" and there was none.......

ok, this seems to be a bit scatty at the moment.. this is happening to all of our admin team but in some cases its happening to moderators and members but not everyone is having the same problem... im after getting 5 reports that it seems fine to them but more than enough have said its effecting them too..... its hardly a browser issue..???

hi buttercup,

thanks for that.. much appreciated... this is just very odd to me cause it happens all 6 of us no matter what computer we are on and even on the phone... it also happens alot of members and staff, reps etc etc but not everybody.. when this happens to us, it effects the other people too.. for instance, if i come online and the forum shows no new posts, the other members that have the same problem see no posts either simply because i (or any of the 6 of our admin team) come online... ive asked all my admin team and it happens all 6 of us... its grand if its not happening to everybody but a bit of a nuisance for us because we have to look after and moderate the forum after all and cant do that cause every time come online, theres no posts.. this also happens when we click on "view posts since last visit".. again no posts..... its something that has just stumped me, ive tried everything at this stage and cant fix it and i just can not understand why this is only happening to us the last month or so while up to that everything was perfect.... ive checked all my browser settings as well and nothing looks out of place...... im just going to have to demote my admin team for all our benefits... we just cant work on the forum the way things are now.......

thanks very much for your help and if anything else pops into mind, please let me know cause im at my wits end but at least i know now that its not a problem with forumotion itself...

cheers,

john...

So everyone whose having this issue is using Chrome?  What happens when they try a different browser?  Are their browsers up to date?

Did you by any chance make any changes to Chrome that you know of?

You could try resetting your Chrome settings if there is no other explanations.

right, i just noticed something with my browser settings and when i told the rest that are using chrome, it seemed to have solved it (but wont be sure for a few days so please keep this thread open).. when chrome updated a month ago, its seems that it added new tool bars and search engines as defaults.. i reset the browser settings and it didnt work so i deleted these search engines then reset and it seems to have worked.. again tho, i will confirm this on here in the coming days...... if this solves it, im going for some well needed beers Smile
