does forumotion have a system in place to report trolling and online death threats to the police
with face book and other online sites there are procedure in place to report online stalking and trolls. does FM have a system in place where such incidents can be reported, or does anyone know how you would go about reporting such incidents to the police.
I know FM keeps records of all traffic so there is no problem with authorities getting the evidence. how though would one set that process in action.
I am receiving threats which have been escalating in severity over the last few months, the latest suggesting that I should be exterminated. they are arriving via the contact form on my forum so have no identifiable IP's or email address's although I understand that FM would have the IP information.
As these threats have been ramping up in severity I think maybe it is time to move the problem into the official area. the person is not using my online ID but my real name so it is rather more serious than just the normal mutter you get on forums.
I have kept all the messages I have received.
If FM does not have a system in place does anyone know how to report it to teh police. I live abroad so cannot pop into a local police station.

I don't know if FM do have a system. However if they don't then I'd make a report at your local police authorities and explain the situation and then they can make the necessary arrangements.

The only thing FM has is reporting forums to the litigation team. I believe you have to contact the authorities and ask to talk to someone who deals with cyber stalking. You will have to have proof of the threats and stalking. Then the authorities can contact FM if they need more information.

thanks both of you, however the problem with reporting it to a local police station is that I am not currently in the UK and will not be for some time. I was rather hoping that someone may know a way of reporting it online.SLGray wrote:The only thing FM has is reporting forums to the litigation team. You could do a search to see if your local police has a website.

Hi,
Unfortunately FM does not have any sort of reporting tool.
They do have a bunch of lawyers, however they don't speak English.
With the type of threats your getting, I am going to suggest the following:
If the threats do not cease very rapidly, or immediately, seek assistance from your local law enforcement -- It is better to be safe then sorry.
Your police can request your ISP to provide a block on your IP location, so you can be safer that way.
I would also suggest to start using a VPN rather then just the ordinary internet, as it's abit more discrete.
I see that your not in the UK, however you can report the issue to ANY (including international) police station, ofcause language permitting.
I wish you the best of luck with your travels, (as a backpacker) and with this issue.

- Inform you local or state police - and get THEM to FORMALLY alert ForuMotion (E-Toxic; Nice, France)
- Get in contact with Buttercup (Current Pro-Admin) - ask her to get copy of these IP addresses and pass them to the legal team, for further investigation.
They can reference the Tayne/Oliver case for precedents. - Once the devs get these IP addresses, they can preform a platform wide IP-Ban, which would prevent them from accessing all products from the E-Toxic brand, including Servimg and OnlineGuardian
- I would also suggest to remove the contact form from your site, but I understand if you don't want to.

thanks but the threats are coming via the contact form on my FM forum, I cannot IP block the sender as there is no way for me to know the IP address he is sending from.RadioHead wrote:Hi,

I use a VPN and encryption software for all my online access already.
Thanks for the advice though, could be very useful.
I will check to see if my hometown police have anyway of contacting them online as it is unlikely I will be back in the UK before next summer.
Yes I did at one point when these messages started coming remove the contact form, but reinstated it after a while so genuine users could contact me if they had any problems and could not access their accounts.
I have a fairly good idea who is sending them, although I cannot prove anything without IP info and even then it could only be circumstantial as he has claimed, after I asked here in a previous thread about how long IP info is kept, on another message to be using a dynamic IP. It does seem that he likes to keep track of what I am doing.
I have also seen on another forum that what goes on here gets reported there with monotonous regularity. And may rather give the game away as to who is doing it.

I understand your point.
What I mean is, the techs can monitor as well from their end, and they can put a server wide ban as they have access to the IP logs.
I might suggest to use a different antivirus protection - as I don't know what you have.

so far the messages have only come via the FM contact system, It would be a lot easier to do something if he was using email to post the threats. Anti virus and encryption are top notch so I am not worried on that score.RadioHead wrote:I understand your point.
