{Only Topic} CAPTCHA Not Appearing
This was an option in the User part of the Admin Panel. Now we have something called User Activation for new users. Even though I turn it off, potential new users are facing that stupid CAPTCHA thing that they cannot get around. I had a message on the board to have people contact me by email. I would turn the CAPTCHA off and they could then sign in. Now, even with the User Activation set to OFF, they cannot.
This is very frustrating and causing me to have to spend a lot of time dealing with it. If I could just create the accounts for them, I would, to save the time. But apparently Admin cannot do this. Why was this changed?
The forum address:
http://www.brothersofbriar.com/
We have 3058 registered users and 429439 messages. 40 users online right now. Hardly an inactive forum.

Re: {Only Topic} CAPTCHA Not Appearing
This option has been removed. What you are referring to is something completely different from the captcha.

The potential user tries to sign up and an activation code should be presented. But is not displayed. So they are stuck. The message they get is that the system cannot determine if they are a spammer. That is where the CAPCHA verification used to be displayed. And there was an option to turn it off. Which I did, so they could get registered.
Now we have User Activation instead of a CAPTCHA switch in the Admin panel in the user options section. It may not be CAPTCHA any longer. But it is stopping potential users from signing up, no matter if I have it off or not.
So how do we get around it now?

No image and no code.
Is this the very same problem? I found this searching some other terms. It sounds the same. And the solution is not acceptable.

No. I am only an Admin. The founder spends his time working and fishing. Only changes have been done by Forumotion.

When did this issue first get reported? Also was the theme recently installed?

Today. No.
Nothing has been done for a number of years, except those changes Forumotion has made to the system. As I said in an earlier post, I was working around what was the CAPTCHA verification. When a potential new user could not get past it, and the system could not verify if he/she was a spammer, they emailed me. Then I would go in to the Admin Panel and turn off the CAPTCHA verification. They got registered and I turned it back on.
This has recently been changed to a choice in the Admin Panel under the user section as User Verification. Which offers the choices of On, Off, Admin. No matter the choice, the verification comes up and some users can get past it and some cannot.
If I Log Out and try to create their account, I have the same problem. And there is no way I can create it within the Admin Panel.

Re: {Only Topic} CAPTCHA Not Appearing
Hello i can help here.
the tools to turn off the CAPTCHA system was removed for the flowing reason.
when Google changed the way sites are seen as safe or not safe they added the new SSL certificate system, Now when members turned off the CAPTCHA system Google and other browsers would just block your sites and then No one not even the founder could get in.
So we took it on our self to remove that tool in the ACP so everyone has to have the CAPTCHA system when making an account on the forum.
That was why the tools in your ACP was removed.
We are sorry if some one can not make an account on your forum and we will do what we can to help you if this is a problem but sadly the tools will not be installed back on your ACP as this system no longer worked for us and you.
kind regards.

Re: {Only Topic} CAPTCHA Not Appearing
I kind of gathered that from the other thread. I would not have started this one had I seen that one earlier.
But is there any discussion at Forumotion about how to work around this problem? We cannot just lock people out permanently. No other forum I am a member of is having this problem. So if it is a Google problem, there must be a way around it.

Re: {Only Topic} CAPTCHA Not Appearing
Right now there is no other way around this.
If the CAPTCHA system is not showing up on the members computer then there is a problem their end and not with our system.
They could try and use some other kind of browser or i have seen turning off the anti virus system for that short time can help but i would not advise this as it's not really safe to do so.
the other way to do this is to make the account for them and then tell them to change the passowrd when they log in.
other then that right now there is no other way sorry but i am 100% sure the tech team are always working on better ways to get around this problem.

Re: {Only Topic} CAPTCHA Not Appearing
I tried logging out and registering as them. Won't work. I get the system cannot determine if I am a spammer message. Just like they do. I can see no way for me to do it in the Admin panel, or I would do it there. The person I am working with right now has tried several other browsers with no luck.
What do you think of this idea? I create a email account, say at gmail. I register with a username and password, and that newly created gmail account. Then go into the Admin panel as myself and change the email and change the username for them. Oh, I do see a problem. Even if I could do that, they would never be able to change the password, because that same security thing will come up and not let then do it.
Of course I do not want to get locked out as an Admin. I have been lucky so far I suspect.

Re: {Only Topic} CAPTCHA Not Appearing
Hi all, I don't know for sure if this is related to this (if not please delete it) but today on my first reply to a message on my forum I too got this captcha thing when I clicked the Send button, saying I had to verify I was not spamming ?? It was just a regular reply with an image which is quite normal.. and at the next replies to posts it didn't occur again, this never happened before.. I'm the founder and admin of the forum and it's phpBB2.
Re: {Only Topic} CAPTCHA Not Appearing

I am sorry to say but I am disappointed in your actions. I have created a forum titled: "Unable to Register". As a newcomer hoping to join one of your forums I have no idea what you are talking about here, but i was hinted that it could be related to some sort of turning on or off a Captcha. The problem has not been resolved yet my forum was locked without any reply to me what I should do. Does this mean the Forumation is not interested in people having Registration problems and I should go elsewhere?. I have received advise from your Admins to click an arrow on the Captcha, yet I stated that I can not proceed further than repeating my password. I was asked to give a link to the forum in question yet it is clearly given at the technical Details before the first post and is viewable by all. My Forum founder has also reported the problem here, for he as an Admin and Founder also is unable to register anybody. My problem is now solved by him by changing the name of one of the inactive user to mine and gave me a temporary password. However, the problem still exist for he is unable to Register a Test user. I have tried four different browsers, all the same and disabled virus protection on my system, nothing changed, the problem still exists. Why luck the forum? If somebody has a registration problem would he search for Turning on or off the Captcha as the title of this forum suggests?
Please do not think that I am stirring or spamming, whatever, but I am showing my feelings in the hope that it might lead to constructive results. Keep on trying guys overall your help and suggestions are helpful and I thank you.
Re: {Only Topic} CAPTCHA Not Appearing
@Cruncher Pete the tools to remove the Captcha was removed as this gave us problems when google looked at our forums so we removed them to stop our forums from getting banned by google and other sites.
Now if your members can't see it and it is turned on your end then this is the right place to report this but if i remember right i could see your Captcha system on your forum so the problem is with the members browsers not our end. we are looking in to this some more and it has already been reported please repost your link here so we can get this tested our end again.
kind regards
