Limited Admin/Staff access?
hi there
i am struggling to find more info on how i can give moderators more power but limited power
like how it goes on many other forum softwares
you can often give staff members limited access to admin panel features such as ban powers, reporting access etc
are there official pages somewhere where this type of info gets enlightened about how to give staff members certain admin access "?
it's more so to really create a difference between certain staff groups
admins obviously can do it all
but i want to set it up where as moderators should only be able to limited things like move delete close etc threads, edit profiles and also handle reported content
and a group above that but below admin, so like global/super/head moderators (a lot of forums use different titles but you get what i mean)
where those members can handle more than just standard mod powers and they could also ban members when needed and get limited admin access
maybe i want to switch it up little bit , so maybe not exactly like that
but i am just really hoping forumotion can give you options like this too when it comes to giving permissions to staff members and divide it a bit like that
thank you

Re: Limited Admin/Staff access?
There are sections in the AP available to only the founder (templates, credits, etc.). There is no option to limit the sections to other administrators. If you do not want moderators or any group who have moderating privileges, you can uncheck the option to ban for them.

ok thanks
are there any documentation pages with official info and guideliness on these subjects?
that would be extra helpful
i mean, how else are people suppose to know this and find out? by just experimenting? xD
surely not everyone goes here and asks like i did

Hello @KPOP
in the Tips & Tricks and Frequently Asked Questions the amazing Forumotion team created a lot of tutorials and guidelines about everything, try having a look!
About your initial question, the original software of PhpBB3 allows you to customize the administrative permissions and have different administrators for different sections (Users, Spam, General settings, etc...) - while in the adapted version of Forumotion for the administration panel you only have one level of permission: enabled or disabled.
In addition, as SLGray was saying, the only limitation is the one for the founder, who is the only one who can delete the forum, access and manage the credits settings, etc...

@niko
thanks for replying and trying to help out
too bad forumotion also does not have that going on
that goes for all forumotion versions right?
EXTRA question; if i have someone on moderator group or head mod group
and i give them admin rank to gain access to admin panel
how can i make it so that the head mod or mod who got it, still keeps their head mod or mod group color?
i tried it out and the mod test acc instantly gets my admin color and i don't want that, people need to have different colors or else it looks like everyone is admin lol
and i have seen people say that more often about the admin panel access but if you don't search for this on here, it is pretty much not clear at all and people would have to figure out it by themselves i feel like
but i was just wondering, is it not written down somewhere? like other places have like a whole guide where everything gets explained in an official way
anyways
thanks again
but i will try and see if i can find more in the area you mentioned
Re: Limited Admin/Staff access?
It is based on the order of the groups.
0 - Administrators - Red
1 - Moderators - Blue
2 - VIP Members - Green
If a member was in all 3 groups, their username will be red.
1 & 2, it would be blue.
0 & 2, it would be red.

You may try having this structure of groups:
Group 0 (Hidden) - the actual administrator group, the one you can't delete to understand
Group 1 (Visible) - a new administrator group which will be visible on the forum
Group 2 (Visible) - the moderators group
You can then place the admin-mod in Group 0 and Group 2, so that they get the color from the highest visible group (which is the moderators) - but they get the power of admin as well (from the hidden administrators group)
Hope it is somehow clear
Have a nice day!

what a lovely rose thank you!
i actually figured it out myself last night before going to bed, basically the same thing you posted
i figured if i hide the original admin group and make a new admin group that solved the color issue somehow
could you please tell me or link me as i have not found it yet myself
the exact and full list of things a co admin cannot do?
you said ''delete the forum, access and manage the credits settings, etc...''
etc meaning there is more? what about the forums templates?
Re: Limited Admin/Staff access?
@KPOP I am not sure there is an official list, but thinking about it quickly these things come in my mind:
edit: it should be all
- Managing credits
- Deleting the forum
- Editing the founder account in any way
- Changing templates
edit: it should be all

how wonderful
thank you for the info
i am glad to see they cannot make changes to templates
however, this does mean they can access and add things to javascripts and css, right?
Re: Limited Admin/Staff access?
Yes exactly, modifications to CCS style sheet and javascript are still allowed
