Multiple Memberships IP Warning system.

Most sites have a ip scanner system on them that will flag up the members that have the same ip address and tell the admin's the ip and the names of the users.

Right now the only way to see the ip and the ones that have more then one account is when the member makes a post then you can click on the ip button.

Only then it will show you a list of ip's and names of the account used With that same ip Address

How this system would work:

The system would be in the ACP in the Security page or Users & Groups >> Under Handle users

The system will be like this And the member would not need to post at all before you see this info.
it would only work if the ip is the same thou.

example:

WARNING: This user has more then one account With the ip address.

User Name	IP Address	Date	ISP Host Name	Allow/Disallow Options
Dave	189/35/9*	12/03/10	ISP WOULD GO HERE	Allow/Disallow user?
Lee	189/35/9*	23/05/11	ISP WOULD GO HERE	Allow/Disallow user?
Ellie	189/35/9*	25/05/11	ISP WOULD GO HERE	Allow/Disallow user?

You the Admin would then pick yes or no to the user's account's

• If you click yes then it would then Not flag up again unless they made one or more account's again,
  
• If you pick NO then An Email would be sent out saying that the Security system has found there ip to be the same as one other member and has banned the new account or some thing like that or a Admin could Email them telling them why there account was locked out.
  

I know some admin's make a test account on there forums so this system would help by saying yes to there own accounts.

A definite yes.

Great suggestion! One glitch that we ran into with disallowing members with the same IP was AOL users. We banned several members in error because of this. AOL assigns a different IP everytime a user logs in.

Thank you for your vote and input but thats why we have the host name in the tools this will then tell us what host and i think your find that AOL is running a proxy ip sys the same as BT do in the uk but BT modems have to be reset to change the ip but the host info will still come up so then you can keep an eye out

Yes i think so...it would need to be used carefully though as innocent members could be caused a problem!

Iphone users and people on TalkTalk would pop up all the time as having the same IP address!

BT talk talk and some other ip's do have a rolling ip's so it could show a problem but as you say the admin would have to take good care to make sure there looking at the info right.

Please note that the ip sys would work better with new accounts made so all you would have to do is look at the date host and ip of the members,

oh and dont worry the ideas good so you should get 100 votes within 3-5 months i believe

I have seen this on one other site i used and it worked really well ok one or two bugs with a rolling ip but nothing you can't deal with I think the admin if that site said that it's better then some other things out there and i for one would love the system to be added to this site aswell
