Register with Facebook account

Hi guys.

I want to set up the ability for guests to register via their Facebook account. Is this referred to as "Facebook Connect"? If so, how do I do this?

I have the overall_header.tpl

But there is no ... Template overall_header_new.tpl FOR PUNBB.

What seems to be my problem?

I have this code before <head> but it's in the overall_header.tpl

You only have to do that if you have modified the templates before you activated Facebook Connect.

I never changed anything before. So why do I get this when I try to use my Facebook account to register?

I really don't understand what they are saying here. I visited the link and it's quite complicated. Not sure if I need to be doing something other than activating Facebook connect with the ID and secret password which I did.

Hello @Taiwan Dive Sites,

That error will be solved following these steps:

Step 1.- Enter in your app list: https://developers.facebook.com/apps/
Step 2.- Open the app of your forum.
Step 3.- Go to Status & Review Tab.
Step 4.- Check if your app is public, clicking "Yes" in the question

Do you want to make this app and all its live features available to the general public?

Step 5.- Go to the settings tab and check if the all configuration is done correctly.

• Click Add Platform > Website > type your forum url.
• In App Domains, paste your forum url.
Both will be the same.
• Add a contact email(outlook,gmail,etc)

Step 6.- Save Changes.

Step 7.- Copy the App ID and the App Secret in your ACP.

There are two fields that are empty. "Namespace" and "App Domains". Should they have any info filled in and if so, what?

Leave name space empty.. it's ok.
App Domains must be filled with your forum url.

But first, add the platform and select "Website"

Register with Facebook account Fb_con19

Next, fill the fields below:

-Site URL: http://myforum.forumotion.com/ (Paste in App domain too)

The SDK, is just the facebook app to create special plugins to like your facebook page, share,post and more.

Also, i joined your forum without any problem. I linked my facebook account too with any problem

Yipee!!! So why am I getting this error message? I try to create a new account and register and I get the message. I try to login with Facebook and again the same message.

Let's create the app correctly, maybe you did not do well one step.

1. Create the new app and in the pop up window select "Website".

2. You will be redirected to a "Quick Start". Click on Skip and Create App ID

3. Write the Display Name(Example: Your forum name). The name space should be empty. Is this a test version of another app? (No)

Category: Your forum content(gaming,books,etc)

4. Click Create App ID.

5. If the page request you to complete the captcha, do it. If not, continue step 6

6. Now you are in Dashboard..

7. Go to Settings tab > add platform > website > type your forum url.

8. In App Domain, paste the same url that you written below in the platform.

9. Fill the contact email and save all changes.

10. Go to Status & Review tab and make public your app. By default the option is on "No", change to Yes, clicking in the white button.

11. Confirm making your app public.

12. If next the name appear a "green ball", your app is now public.

13. Go the dashboard tab and copy the App ID and click "Show" to copy App Secret.

14. Go to:

ACP(Admin Control Panel) > Modules > Social networks > Facebook Connect >

And paste your APP ID and APP Secret.

If you get a error like: Invalid App ID

You should re-create the app and do it all again, until it works Wink

Okay, so I did it all again and everything went smoothly. But I still get the error message.

Would you mind creating an account again and see what you experience. You said that it worked for you before.

I associated my account, without any error.
It says "Your account is linked".

I'm thinking is your pc, or your browser maybe.. Try with another like Chrome, Safari,etc.

I wonder if I need to clear my browser or if others using firefox will also have issues when registering.

Okay, I cleared my Firefox browser. I used Firefox and it worked.

Thanks for all your support. You were awesome. I got the app live and active and then sorted out the browser issue.

All is good in my world now.
