How to advertise

Where do you guys advertise your forums? Most of websites don't allow it, you must pay. I mean, I saw many forums with really bad design and yet so so active. Like, how? I tend to make good design to attract people, but my advertising skills are terrible.

To social networks basically
You can also advertise it here to our promotion section or affiliate with other forums

You can also link your forum's to google then a basic search on google will help you.

Also sharing content from your forum will index your forum on search engines.  I mean shre by using the share options on the forum.
