How do I make my forum private
I don't want "guests" lurking - I want a private forum for a few selected friends, so how do I stop anyone else from seeing it?

Also - how do I stop pop-ups?
And, how do I get this quick reply box at the bottom of posts?

Re: How do I make my forum private
1st question: Change the settings of all your categories and forums.
ACP>General>Categories and Forums>Click and uncheck the "view and read" of the guests. Do this on the other forums.
2nd question: I don't know what do you mean by the pop-ups. Is that the ads?
3rd question: ACP>General>Messages and Emails>Configuration>Check "Allow Quick Reply" then Hit Save.

Re: How do I make my forum private
You have to set the permissions for all the boards on your forum to members only. The quick reply box is in Admin Panel, Messages and e-mails, then Configuration and then the option is on the list. My site is also private and by invitation only due to it being a club site, behind a server in our little hangout centre I don't know how to stop popups but I am sure someone can help you.. I was under the impression, if you mean ads then they are set for all new sites created after a certain time, or so I heard. Good Luck.

re 1st question: done all that, but Guest is still there. Do I have to wait until he/she logs off or can I shut them out now?
What do you mean "on the other forums"?
re 2nd question: yes - There was an ad that "hovered" and no matter what button you pressed ie no or the red x, everything opens up another window.
re 3rd question: done that - Thank You!!
Thanks for your help and prompt replies.

Re: How do I make my forum private
1. Well, guests may always be there, but they will not see any of your forum categories. Nothing to worry about that.
"On other forums" - do the same thing on the permissions on the other categories/forums/subforums. Got it?
2. You cannot remove ads unless you have credits. Just don't click the ads.

Re: How do I make my forum private
So does that mean that guests will not be able to read ANY posts? We have very private stuff that we don't want anyone else to see - ever. It was the whole idea of only sending invitations to a selected few.
How many credit do I need to be able to get rid of those hovering ads?

If you have unchecked all the boxes for guests, then yes they will not be able to see or read topics.

@granard
Well I really have no idea how many credits you must spend to disable those ads.
Try asking the Admins here. For sure they know.

@slg - Thank you so much, that's just what I needed to know.
@jack - I can live with / ignore the ads until I've really got the hang of this running a forum stuff.
Thanks again for such quick replies.
