Solved Guest on a closed forum

Post by lh0103 Wed 25 Jan 2012 - 17:59

I am puzzled. My forum is totally closed and we are just a handfull of people. It has been closed
from the start. Never any problem.

Suddenly today we had a guest on the forum....the guest was able to reply in a topic.....the guest
also had a username. How is that possible for a guest to reply in a closed forum.

I also found out, that if you Google a very specifik frase (in this case *kalendersjal* ) ... we are first
on the site......you can read the first words and the topic....if you click on it you will come to the
login....... how come our topic can be googled (the forum is closed) and how is it that the guest was
able to reply within the forum.

I have tjeked the settings on adminsite.....all is closed....

A couple of weeks ago all my users profile settings was like reset.....they all recieved emails when a topic was replyed.
We have all disable that options, but suddenly we all have to set it again. We thought that perhaps there was an update
on the forum...... could there be a connection there.

Hope you can understand my questions. Thank you in advance Smile

On our login page it says that no new member is allowed. So no one can ask for membership.
All settings in adminpanel is set to write/wiev and so on for members only.
That goes for all our forums and topics. All settings is for members only. And since we're not
taking new members in, it is very disturbing for us, that a complete stranger got into the forum
through google....and even was able to replyed in the topic..... the guest is not a member and
should therefor not be able to neither see og write in our forum.

User must of deleted their account. If you have your permissions set up right, this shouldn't happen.

You are so right....and that is what makes it so disturbing.....all settings is set correctly.
So the questions stands.....how can a guest get in to my forum and write a reply, when all activities is for members only.

Could it be that a member posted it, then the member's account was deleted?

No. It is over a year ago a member asked to be deleted. And that member had a different name.
The guests name is no member of mine. It is a complete stranger who gained acces via
google. I can se that Google Bots are in dayli.....do the bots send out info so others can google it?????

When was this post by a Guest posted? When you deleted a member, their posts are changed to say Guest.

The post was written today (my member was deleted a year ago). And the post do not only say guest.
The Guest has a name..... Salamand (and under that name is the word guest).

I am aware of the former member now stand as guest. But this one is different.
She/he is been able to write at username and then write a reply.

Are you sure guest don't have permissions? Maybe the user deleted their own account without letting you know cause users do have an option to do so. It doesn't seem to be a bug, but a permissions fail or user deleting their own account.

I am very sure. There are only 20 members....so it is very easy to keep track of us all.
A guest should not be able to be on the forum at all. Our login site say *the admin dont allow new members* .
All settings are set to members only....and as you can see.... Slamand is a guest. And quest has no permission at all.

And how was the link in the topic change. It is not change by anyone in the forum.

And I still dont understand why a topic from our closed forum can be googled. I have now googled random.
And if you are writing the eksact words you can find many of our topics. But when you click on them, you
only get to the login site. And why do they appear on goggle at all.....they have never been out there before.

As I wrote earlier......2 weeks ago all on my forum suddenly had there profile setting changed. Me too.
Not anything bad....just the options about recieving email when a topic is answered. We all had to reset
our settings. I thought mabey frre forum had an update.....but mabey it was hacked.....

It dosent seems to be something you can give me an answer to.....but what would you surgest I do now for protection. Question

Will it help that I delete the topic that can be googled and remake them. Will that remove the links on google???

Members can do that using:
https://www.forumotion.com/en/unscribe/

They cannot unscribe without being a member first.

Who registered....I have to clear all members via email. And login site says that admin dont allow any new members.

So I would still like to know how Salamand could make an account and delete her/himself.....when we dont allow new
members. And if she/he asked for membership ....how come I havent got an email to aprove, like I did with all my other members.

If Salamand made an account without approvel....then there is something wrong....and I would like to know how to fix it.

I believe I have a closed forum.....not nice if anyone can create and then delete an account without my (the admins) approvel.

Thank you for your time Smile .....but I still do not understand that a closed forum can be accesed without clearence via email...
and why closed topic is on google.

When a member deletes them self the user name will then appear as guest.

why don't you post the link to the thread they posted in.
Nothing is coming up for me when i go to your forum, So i think you are just mixed up and confused, From what i am seeing the forum is set up correctly and guest can not see any forums you have on the board.

To be bunt, the bottom line is, If you have the permissions set right, then their is no way a guest will get in. If you see a guest in the admin panel homepage saying a guest is on the index. This only means you have someone on the outside of your forum.

Other then that you must just be getting mixed up with something?

But yeah. It all seems to how it should be to me,
I can not see any forums or anything.

Hi Kirk..... the guest here dosent apear only as a guest like the member I've deleted a year ago. That member is now listed as a guest.
The visitor from yesterday has nevner been on my forum as a member. And since we only are 20 member it is very easy to keep track
of all my members. And the visitor from yesterday does not apear only as a guest...but has a username and under that guest. Se sreenshot
further up. And the link in the topic was change.

I dont know how I can say it more clearly. I am not confused. My setting is right. It is not a former member who deleted herself.
Salamand has never been a member. Salamand got into my forum via a link on Google. Why is there a link on google when my
forum is closed and set up right. And why did both me and my members has our profile setting set back to default 2 weeks ago.

That remains to be answered.

Thank you for all your help. Seems to be an issue that can not be answered. But I'm glad you've tryed.

SLG and my point of asking what thread/forum/post this guest has gotten into is So

We can go to the link, if the link lets us in then it means you do not have the permissions set correctly.

VS

If we go to the thread and it dose not appear nor come up for us, Then it means you have it set correctly and you are somehow mistaken?

So post the link to the thread or forum that according to you this guest has gotten in to and we will see if it allows us in.. Very good

And yes according to your screen shot.. It dose not appear at all that you are allowing guest.
But please post the link so we can be sure.

Because it can be due to the update and things rolling back.
Since this guest has posted, you can always ban the ip address as well Smile
