Need to minimise the rights of a specific user
Hi,
I have a user registered on my forum that I suspect to be a spy/lurker.
Can I alter the member's permissions (I do not want him to be able to view certain pages and forums of mine, only the Intro board, etc, but not the other main boards)
How do i go about setting which forums he has viewing access to?
Please advise.
Regards

Re: Need to minimise the rights of a specific user
Create a group and restrict it's permissions. Then add the questionable member to the group.

I need instructions for that - I already tried, but I cant get right
I did create a group and when I goto Modify permissions, it only allows me to tick the "Moderator" box for each forum, so they can moderate the specific forum. but I haven't seen anything where I can "untick" which forum they have access or view or write in.

Re: Need to minimise the rights of a specific user
Users & groups>Group Administration
Set it up such a way for say user sanket
http://awesomescreenshot.com/0ad140ua82
Add a single member to the group, sanket in my case.
Then, General>Categories and Forums
Click on a forum name
Permissions tab
Uncheck the options for this individual group.
Note, you will need to have a Autosubscribed members group with 0 posts, otherwise this won't work. Because, if you check the default members group it checks it for all the other groups.
Hope you understand.

Yes I did, but I cannot uncheck the options, it doesn't give me the option to do so, so I created an Autosubscribed members group and set the Minimum posts to 0, i don't really understand it, what do i do from here?

Hello,
All new registered members will then be placed on that group.
For the permissions Un-check first the permissions for 'members', then you can choose which groups has the ability to view a certain forum, post a topic etc. Then you can restrict that group from certain permissions.

Okay thanks, but I'm still completely lost, I've taken a snap shot to show you what I mean:
As you can see in the first snapshot, I've created an Autosubscribe members group and set the messages to 0.
In this image, note that I cannot edit the simple permissions like view forum etc. The same is with the rest of the groups i have there, I cannot change the simple permissions. Why?

The permissions that we are talking about are here:
Administration Panel > General > Forum > Categories & Forums
You will have to go through each forum's permissions.

I have tried! I have tried everything, but it's just greyed out. I cannot edit the permissions of Members, see here:

Re: Need to minimise the rights of a specific user
Instead of members, choose the blank one. Give it a try.
Re: Need to minimise the rights of a specific user
Un-check the permissions for members first, then you can choose what groups you'll only give permissions.repchat wrote:SLGray wrote:The permissions that we are talking about are here:
