Solved Multiple Forums in One Question

Post by Derri Tue 9 Jul 2013 - 20:49

Hi,

So I was wanting to create the multiple forums in one via this topic https://help.forumotion.com/t21989-multi-forums-in-one

However I'm curious to find out what would happen if I restricted say one out of the four forums. What I mean is via the permissions page, I disallow a group to view one of the four forums, what would it look like to someone viewing it?

Would it just be a gap or would the forum stretch out?

I'm in the pre stages of working out a forum and am curious to see how this might work out before I actually attempt this myself.

You need to modify the permisions of your forum whick is in that multiple forum , for example you had :

http://www.help.forumotion.com/f1-dra who contains all the sub forums , you need to chance only the
http://www.help.forumotion.com/f2-drap this is a example where is the first / last or whatevere subforum from your forum.

Thanks, however

I'm aware of how to modify the permissions for each forum but I wondering what the overall outlook would be for someone who can only see 3 out of four 4 of the sections while its a multi forum, like what would they see because one forum would be missing to them.

The only way to really know is to create it and then test it with a test account.

That option did cross my mind but I generally wanted to avoid that as its quite a pain creating the multiple forums in one with all the coding. So I thought I'd ask first and see if anyone knew.

I'll test this hopefully tomorrow and update. I'm very curious now to see how this will work

EDIT: If anyone does have the answer and feels like sharing it between now and tomorrow then please feel free to do so Very Happy It'll save me testing it Razz

Interestingly enough it would appear the coding bypasses the permissions set with each individual forum. So I guess unless you hid all of the forums at once you're still going to be able to view them.

So for example say I set 3 forums for guests and members to view and I set one forum for only members, guests can still view all 4.

This topic is now solved.
