Solved Private Message Welcome

Post by jan4jam May 20th 2015, 6:36 pm

Good afternnon,

I am setting up a automatic Welcome PM for my forum.

When I tried to copy and paste my message I wrote in the box there were brackets there like this <br/>
so when I pasted my welcome message I placed the cursor in front of the brackets and letters above?

Does anyone know where do you place the cursor to start to type your message so it includes spaces and paragraph indents etc so it is not all run together?

Thank you and have a good day,
Jan

<br/> = line break

You must be in the WYSIWYG mode.

Hello,

You can find a complete list of the most common html tags on this refrence sheet: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/default.asp

As SLGray said <br/> is html for a line break.

-Brandon

Post by jan4jam May 22nd 2015, 8:18 am

Good morning,

I went to the link you gave me, I appreciate it but I am not very tech savey it says <br />in the admin cp welcome message in the box?

On that site it just says <br>? No space between the slash? And no slash?

I do not understand, it says "it defines a single line break" I do not  know what that means, please just tell me where I place the cursor when I type my message there or copy and paste it, I do not know computers very well I do not understand codes html etc.?

Thank you have a good day,

SLGRAY POSTED below:
"You must be in the WYSIWYG mode."

I do not see that mode just simple and advanced?

Try not to double post.

Just delete the <br/>.  Then type your message.  If you edit it, the <br/> will be added back, so make sure to delete it again.

The reason why you are seeing the <br/> on the forum is because you do not have HTML activated for the forum and in your profile.

AP > General > Messages & Emails > Configuration
Allow HTML:

Profile > Preferences
Allow HTML:

To get out of WYSIWYG mode, press the last button in the editor toolbar.  The one that looks like a piece of page.

Thanks SLGray,

I have done so, I appreciate your timely response:)

I have two questions do I have to tell my members to set the html in their profiles or may I do so in the Admin cp?

Below I do not understand where to go to do what you said it is quoted below this:

To get out of WYSIWYG mode, press the last button in the editor toolbar.  The one that looks like a piece of page.

I just emptied the welcome message body text and refreshed the page after I saved it of course and deleted the <br /> and copied and pasted my message in and it did the same thing all run together no paragraphs?

Sorry for the trouble with this?

Hello,

The refrence sheet I gave above does say that a line break has a space.

Anyway, since the welcome box uses html, if you simply type in it, it will not appear like that. Unless you use WYSIWYG Mode. It is the last icon with a piece of paper on it.
