Member Not Allowed To Register/Log On To Forum
Experts,
I have a new member which is receiving messages when he attempts to register/log on to our forum (link at the end of this message). When he tried to register, he received this message:
I thought creating his account and giving him a password (to change after a successful login) would fix the issue, but I was wrong... this is what he gets AFTER I created his account for him:
So he was first told he was not allowed to register on the forum; after I registered him he was told that he was not allowed to log in. I advised him that he should try a different browser, clear his cache and try again, or look at obtaining a different ISP. Not sure what the problem is and I am all out of ideas. I really think this is an issue external to forumotion but is manifesting here...for some reason.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I've tried to enhance the screen shots of what I was sent by the user experiencing the difficulties. I hope these are better.

The first screenshot says 'You are not allowed register on this forum' . The second screenshot says 'You are not allowed to login into this forum'.
This is an un usual message, I have never heard of this one before.
Does the user get any 'captcha' fields or any other messages along with it?

I'll ask him, but I doubt it. He sent me those screen shots after I asked him to send me everything associated with his issue.
I am baffled as well...glad that it is not just me that is confused. Because he is not allowed to either register or login I am inclined to think it is associated with his IP address or ISP, but that is far beyond my knowledge level.

Re: Member Not Allowed To Register/Log On To Forum
I mean there is an issue that can cause a user to be unable to login and register and stuff that is affilated them being black listed on our system and then we must ask a pro admin to look into it and remove them.
That issue, however, to my understanding has a very specific message associated with it, along with a 'captcha' box that it wants you to fill out, but that never actually solves the issue. You can find this issue at this only topic: https://help.forumotion.com/t147946-only-topic-detected-suspicious-activity .
The issue your user is having does not sound like this issue, so I wonder what else could cause this.
Is that user the only one having that issue that you know of?

Interesting about the blacklist thing. I wonder if he has been blacklisted on another site and it is manifesting itself here as well? Again, past my comprehension level but worthy of looking into.
He is the only user on my forum having this issue which leads me to believe that it is not forumotion related.
I'll ask him if he is getting a 'captcha' box, but since he is foreign, it may take a bit to get a reply.
Thanks for racking your brain with me on this.

Ok, what I would do is send the information in that topic in pm to a staff member, even if the says they don't, so that we can have a pro admin check if any of the user's info is on the list and thus might be causing the issue.

Re: Member Not Allowed To Register/Log On To Forum
Not an expert, but you do have registering enabled on your forum correct?
Sometimes you can uncheck one box and it completely ruins allowing users to independently register themselves...
This can be found in Admin Panel > Users and Groups > Users Options

While that might initially have been a possibility as for why the issue occuring, it can't be now. Doesn't explain why the user can not login, using the account that the admin already created for him. There is some other mysterious issue at play here.
Also the info I meant was the info in this topic: https://help.forumotion.com/t147946-only-topic-detected-suspicious-activity . If you read the first post, you will see there is information you must pm to a staff member to get that issue resolved. I also suggest sending that information that is asked for in that topic via a pm (private message) to a staff member so we can get that possibility looked into.

Yes, registering is enabled and other members have successfully registered. I'm stumped. Thanks for the direction though!

Re: Member Not Allowed To Register/Log On To Forum
First, thanks to everyone's assistance on this matter. I am sure between you smart folks and me we can sort this out soon. I really appreciate your feedback!
So, I've asked the member to provide me with there IP address of the member, Username, Email address, and Url of the forum. Once I get that from him I will PM a staff member with it to start the resolution process.
Again, thanks for all your help and inputs!

One other thing... the user could have blacklisted the site or one of the URL's of the site and may not be able to actually access it because THEY blacklisted a URL associated with your site.

Good point. I'll verify with him to make sure. I did advise him to check his security settings in his browser to make sure that forumotion is not restricted.

Re: Member Not Allowed To Register/Log On To Forum
Hello,
So I asked our pro admin Leviosa to look into this from her end, as I admit I was stumped on this one. @Orchid , she looked through your site admin panel and apparently a whole bunch of 'Allow access' stuff was un ticked. I believe she has re ticked them now and your user should be able to get in. May you ask your user to try logging in now?

Thanks @brandon_g. I will have him retry to log in. It is just strange because other users could create accounts and log in. I'll let you know if he has any success. Thanks for all your help!
