Moving from forumotion URL to FM-bought domain URL to SSL service
Technical Details
Forum version : #phpBB3
Position : Founder
Concerned browser(s) : Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari
Who the problem concerns : All members
When the problem appeared : Immediately after imposing SSL certificate
Forum link : http://tnrsleaders.forumotion.com
Description of problem
I set up http://tnrsleaders.forumotion.com a few days ago. Then I applied for a personal domain through FM, tnrsleaders.org. That went smoothly. When you folks informed me that the new domain had cleared, I redirected http://tnrsleaders.forumotion.com to http://www.tnrsleaders.org in the Admin panel, via General:Forum:Forum Address:Personalized Domain Name, selecting Yes.I then went to Misc and spent 500 credits to install an SSL certificate, expecting the http://www.tnrsleaders.org URL to be switched to https://www.tnrsleaders.org. Unfortunately, it does not do that. https://www.tnrsleaders.org redirects to http://www.tnrsleaders.org.
Obviously, I did something in the wrong order, but before I try to fix it myself, I would like some advice.
I'm thinking that I should uninstall the SSL certificate and go back to the Personalized Domain Name area and remove the redirect. Then I should reinstall the SSL certificate (or buy a new one if need be) and install it to change http://tnrsleaders.forumotion.com to https://tnrsleaders.forumotion.com, and *then* go to Personalized Domain Name and redirect https://tnrsleaders.forumotion.com to tnrsleaders.org, which should result in https://www.tnrsleaders.org being activated properly.
Am I correct in how to fix this or do you want to tell me to do something else instead? Note that I do not have any pages or elements in any forum or webpage that need to have URLs fixed. I have no content on the forum at all, so this is purely a redirect issue at SSL and CNAME level.
Thank you for your help!
Steve

Hello,
When did you purchase the ssl certificate? Sometimes it can take a few days for our team to get around to installing the certificate on your forum. I would say give it until Monday or Tuesday to see if it appears and if not then we can make a report on it.

After you purchased the SSL certificate, more options should have appeared. You need to set those options.

Re: Moving from forumotion URL to FM-bought domain URL to SSL service
Brandon and SLGray, thank you both for your quick replies.
I take it from your replies that it should not matter which order I redirect the CNAME and install the SSL certificate. That's very helpful to know. That relieves some of my concerns.
I had not realized it took so long for the SSL certificate to be applied. In Misc/Credits Management/Summary" it simply is titled: "Enabling the SSL Certificate (HTTPS)" and then says "The SSL certificate is enabled until 21 Jul 2018." The latter statement made me think the SSL Cert is already enabled and should be working, but I will follow Brandon's advice and wait until Tuesday to see if something changes.
SLGray, I would appreciate it if you would let me know where the "more options" you mention should appear. Do I need to watch the Misc/Credits Management/Summary" page for the additional options, or do I need to click through there with the "Modify" button to the Modify page? Or will these new options appear elsewhere, say in the General/Forum/Security page or somewhere else I haven't considered?
Again, I thank you both for your help!

Re: Moving from forumotion URL to FM-bought domain URL to SSL service
Hello just to add to the other staff posts.
When you add your new SSL service it will take about 2 days to be added to your forum this is down to our staff putting this on your forum service then when you turn it on in your ACP it will change files automatically to make your HTTP addresses to the new HTTPS this can take up to 2 more days to do this depending on the size of your forum and the codes used in your CSS files and other codes.
As it is the weekend our head office is closed so we can not find out any other info in this time but if your settings has not changed by monday we will be happy to help you more then.

Brandon_g and APE, thank you so much! I went to the Modify page and found the three options, selected the first and shifted all three, and voila, my site immediately shifted over to HTTPS flawlessly.
I need nothing else on this thread and consider my questions all answered. Thank you again.
I will mark this thread as Solved.
