I believe everyone does not understand that all you have to do is add this, sitemap.xml, to your forum's link in Google Search Consoles under sitemaps. Click the add/test button and add sitemap.xml in the box that appears after your forum's link and then click submit.

Here: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools
You have to have an account and add your forum.
After logging in, you should see a section on the right that says sitemaps. If you do not, click the dashboard on the left side.

I see the mistake. You added hml, not xml.

1. Correct
2. Yes, give it time to exactly crawl your forum and sitemap.

Re: Optimize your forum referencing with google sitemaps
That is how it looks in my console. All you had to do was add sitemap.xml in the box, not the whole address.

4916 pages have been submitted.
Why does it show that only 2 pages are indexed?

Re: Optimize your forum referencing with google sitemaps
Because it takes time for them to exactly crawl your forum. Think about it: billions of forums on the Internet and each one is crawled by search engines.

Re: Optimize your forum referencing with google sitemaps
Yes, it takes time.
I submitted mine in September, and it is still about half done.
You will not have 2 pages. It is just a way to help search engines to crawl your forum.
