Solved Does Windows10 mess with my forum

Post by Bignuggs February 18th 2018, 11:22 am

I have a new desktop/ home computer that runs windows 10. I have a laptop that has windows8 and a tablet that runs windows10.
I have no problems with the laptop or tablet but the new desktop will not allow the buttons/icons in these pics.

As the Admin founder of my forum, I need to see these buttons.
Does anyone know if it is Windows10 that is messing me around. I've tried IE, Chrome and Edge, nothing works. Firefox doesn't work at all.
Any ideas on how to fix the problem.
Cheers

Hello,

Your OS can't impact your forum but the web browser yes! Can you verify the version of your web browser on each device? Maybe you use IE on old devices and Edge on the new one Blush

Have you tried clearing the browsers cache and cookies?

The os shouldn't have effect on how websites load. It is strange though that all 3 web browsers have the same issue. Have you made any changes to the forum since getting the new pc?

The os should not cause issues unless it has been tampered with. A guess:you didn't buy windows 10. Press Ctrl+F5 in Firefox or Chrome, it should reset the cache. Also make sure there is no plugin installed in those browsers. If the browsers where preinstalled with the os, uninstall them, download original installers from mozilla/google and install them. Your forum link would be useful in case you have some javascript doing this.

I've uninstalled chrome and firefox and installed new versions and IE is set to update automatically. done what I think is cache clearing for all browsers and I still don't see the buttons.
I bought and installed Windows 10 when I got the new computer and I should have added, this problem only started a week ago, it was all working fine up to then.
The only changes I've made to my forum is 2 security settings which will affect every user. one of the other forum Admin guys tells me he sees all the buttons.
heres the forum link

this is what I see which is nothing.
all the buttons and functions are gone. and I only have the "quick reply" option,
no buttons on the left side, no "quote or edit" buttons in a post, and not "reply" button so I can't use the menu bar
and it's the same in the forumotion support page. I'm using my laptop to send this.

Do you have reader mode activated in the browser?

Well here's the lastest. Windows10 will mess with your computer and that's my opinion.
I've just spent all day changing settings and nothing worked.
So, I ran the windows10 usb stick install again (it's not a disk anymore) and there is no "Repair" option. Lost all my stored files and photo's but I dont çare.
I can now see my forum correctly in Firefox, Chrome and Microsoft Edge. It will not allow IE11 to be installed, it's got me beat on that.
So if anyone would like to add some information to this problem, please let me know.
Is it solved ?? I don't know. Only time will tell for me.
Cheers and thanks for the help.

Actually windows 10 is supposed to come with internet explorer as well. That is beside the point though I suppose. Maybe your install didn't go through properly the first time thats why maybe you had issues. I am suprised your pc didnt come with windows 10 pre installed if it is new, as that is all they put on new pcs.

Anyway, would you like us to wait a couple days before archiving this?

Everything is still working just fine now. It is my opinion that windows10 was messing with settings and the reinstall seems to have fixed things.
Thanks for all suggestions and this is closed and hopefully doesn't happen again.
