How do I promote a member to admin so she can help me with this redoing.

By adding her to the administrator group.  If you do this, she will have access to the administration panel.

Just remember, @LizAnne only founder /u1 can access to Templates, an Admin can't.

Yes, there are certain areas of the administration panel that is accessible to the founder only.
