stop old forum name from redirecting to new forum name
Technical Details
Forum version : #phpBB3
Position : Administrator
Concerned browser(s) : Other
Who the problem concerns : All members
When the problem appeared : ongoing
Forum link : https://marvelousartworks.forumotion.com/
Description of problem
Angel(Email address removed by APE) left marvelousartworks.forumotion.com I have the password to log in under her account as founder. She wanted the forum name changed when she left the forum to me. I changed the name to onceinalife-friends.forumotion.com but even if someone puts marvelousartworks.forumotion.com now--several months later, it redirects to the new name. I do NOT want, Angel does not want onceinalife-friends associated with marvelousartworks. We 'thought' it would quit redirecting after a period of time but it has not.is there a way to completely stop it from redirecting? OR am I going to need to delete the forum completely?
thank you

Re: stop old forum name from redirecting to new forum name
if you want the address changed you need to do the following.
Please remember making a change of address means you will need ot give all your members the new address
if you want to change the name of the forum this is not the same thing.
under: Address modification change the address there. making sure you save the settings after.ACP >> General >> Forum >> Forum address >>

Re: stop old forum name from redirecting to new forum name
Have you shared content after the change to social media? If no, share content on Twitter (X), Facebook, etc. When you do this, the search engines will index the forum again. I mean use the share option on the forum. It does take a long time before the redirection will stop.

Re: stop old forum name from redirecting to new forum name
If you click on the forum link you will see I did change the forum name. We are a very small forum and are not even open to join, so I have not shared any content to X or Facebook or TS as membership is closed.
Are you saying that sharing some content from the forum since changing the name is the only way to stop the redirects?
I cannot find on forumotion a 'share' option.
Sorry about the violation and thanks for helping me try to solve this.

Re: stop old forum name from redirecting to new forum name
Dear @chakoteh
there is an automatic redirect that is placed when the forumotion address is changed. This was implemented to allow all the members to be aware of the new forum address (imagine that someone was not aware of the address-change and couldn't find the forum anymore - this was to prevent this scenario).
The redirect will disappear if someone creates a forum using the old address (which is now available again for new registration).
To cancel the redirect from the old address to the new address, the only alternative is to have a technician do that server-side
So, to reassure you, it is not a bug but a planned and intended "help"
Hope this clarifies the scenario

Re: stop old forum name from redirecting to new forum name
dear @Niko
Thank you for the response. I did know that a redirect was 'normal' at the beginning of the name change. Now I just want to know exactly what to do get rid of the redirect.
It sounds like you're saying a technician (where can I find this magician called 'technician'?) would need to code in--on the server side to stop the redirect OR I could create a new forum with the old marvelousartworks name, then delete it and that would work?
Is there a technician that would do the server side thing? Is there a place to ask for that to be done?
Again, thanks Niko. I could feel the kindness in your response. Needed that

Re: stop old forum name from redirecting to new forum name
Thank you @Ape I will get all of that info together and I will try creating a new forum with the old address, then delete it and see if that eliminates the redirecting. IF it does not, I will send you the information you asked for. i will make this being a Friday, a good thing giving me time to see if I can resolve the redirection without your needing to contact the head office.
thank you so much. I appreciate everything you all do to help us.
