Yes or No
Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
First topic message reminder :
I am suggesting that we have the option to edit or remove the timeout time for the chatbox. It gets irritating when we get kicked out of the chatbox after a shortwhile of inactivity.

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
I believe that either removing the time out or editing the time period before it kicks you out would both be effective ways to handle this chatbox issue.
It has always annoyed me that it times out so soon and I really wish it would show up on all pages, rather than just on the index page. Unfortunately, seeing how old this topic is.....I doubt anything will change, but I voted yes, anyways.

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
I just put the chat box on my forum. I started trying to figure out how
to lengthen the time before timing out within the first ten minutes.
I vote Yes.
Please allow a longer session before time out.

I've read demands for auto-login, but this is allready possible, I've written a code for it and applied it to multiple forum allready.

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
uhh twenty minuets seems like a long enough time to me and if people dont session timeout how do you know who is actually online? and if you arnt their to log back in then you arnt actually online are you? its more annoying to see someone on chat who isnt their than to see noone on chat

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
And again: Yes, but nothing has happened even though now there are 111 'yes' votes vs 3 'no'
To be honest - I find it funny
Edit: And the post is 4 years old xD One big: L O L. Admins, please, at least let us know - either you will do, or you won't. Don't let people just believe that something will be done, and vote - and then nothing...
You had 4 years to make a decision...

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
Yup, but I didn't know it is authorised by you o.o
Sorry then I thought it was users' initiative.
And yet - 'no timeout' doesn't work for me in FMChat too. My users are grumbling about those annoying announcements:
X has joined the chat...
X has been disconnected...
Is there anything I can do with those, instead of asking my users to press archives anytime they want to chat?

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
I'm not really for removing the timeout, personally. First, it means that people who forget to log out before closing the window can stay in overnight without people really knowing that they aren't actually online. Second, chat rooms tend to be highly server intensive due to the way they run, and it would be expensive on forumotion's part to remove the timeout, ultimately resulting in more ads on the forums.
I would like, however, to see it changed to something like 45 minutes or an hour. I think it would be a little more reasonable than the 15/20 minutes it's set to now. (Although I've set up a third party chat for the main site I work with now, so it's not much of an issue for me. )
Just my 2 cents.

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
And wouldn't it be better if it worked as it works with other forums?
You log on the forum - you are automatically logged to the chat also. You leave the forum - you are logged out. AND you don't get those annoying annoucements about who's just joined or who's just left...
It only annoys people and leaves the chat littered...

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
Yep. I installed it and it is worse than FmChat
The buttons are disappearing when you write somethng and you have to wait for that chat to load before you write anything. What's more - it uses phpbb 2 subsilver theme. At least on my forum - it looks just ridiculous...
EDIT: And ye - I tried changing themes. Each and every one of theme had subsilver colours

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
I think being able to adjust the time of how long it will keep you logged in is great. but the auto log off is not bad it keeps inactive users out.
