Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
First topic message reminder :
I am suggesting that we have the option to edit or remove the timeout time for the chatbox. It gets irritating when we get kicked out of the chatbox after a shortwhile of inactivity.

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
Of course, as I agree with Inferno.
I get much more more than irritated (pissed, angry, ...) when that occurs... Every time the same issue, we get called off, and "timed out"... honestly i wonder why it's been implemented in the first place, security, hacking???
So, yes dear, both issues are different but note that I ain't the first one to raise it. I want to know the reason behind the person coming up with that idea, as to why he proposed it or asked it...
If it is suggested to make a new poll then why not?

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
i don't feel the need but will vote in favour if the poll opens as this idea (visibility) will come in handy on chatboxes for people who are already invisible.
personally i am in favour of canceling or increasing the cutoff time on chatboxes from 10 to 60 minutes if there is no way to eliminate it completely.

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
I will not even get into that..... I plead the 5th. Thank You for the Vote!PotSmuggle wrote:I voted yes.
Do these suggestions even get implemented? Dx
Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
No problem! Hopefully this still gets implemented even after all these years. The timeout system is so bad that I'm thinking of just using an irc chatbox instead so I won't have to deal with this any more.

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
I'll give one reason that prevents it from being approved:
overload
Just imagine that there are thousands of forums where the chat is up and running at the same time, if there is no X limit for disconnection, there will be certainly an overhead on the system because unlike a topic, the chat is full of activity for several members !
If I'm wrong, so that people of "superior knowledge" correct me.

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
Overloading what exactly, @JScript? The servers got replaced 3 months ago, lots of people are using broadband connections or something alike nowadays. I think that time-out rule is based on old designs. Some forums have tens or even hundreds of users in chat. If the time-out is disabled, still the inactive user will be disconnected automatically after 60 minutes of inactivity, right? And if not, (chat)mods and admins can still kick a user off chat if necessary. And with the new chatbox codes there will be less requests done over the network.JScript wrote:I'll give one reason that prevents it from being approved:

It is the most hated feature of them all! I give us a tick box in the acp... if not they re did the chatbox for nothing!

Of course not! What's so hard to click "Login" ?!
And after a while be disconnected ?!

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
It's annoying. That's what it is. And clicking 'login' will produce another network request as well instead of staying online in chat.JScript wrote:Of course not! What's so hard to click "Login" ?!

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
Yes it is not hard at all, but if someone stops chatting to post around for 2 seconds they get disconnected. It is annoying. I can deal with it but my users hate it and that is the only important thing, if the users do not, like it, away with it. That is how it has to be, everything is for the member. I am sorry they do not know what forumotion is but to the basic extent so they will not understand overload or servers... they only understand it is annoying and should go away. That is why I waste my time trying to get these suggestions put in place, I vouche for my users. I would go to hell and back for them. I am supporting this and pushing this suggestion not for me but for my Members.
Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
It is a way to know who exactly is active on the chatbox.

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
I agree with SLGray and JScript, I find the disconnection feature very useful, it'd be a pain to scroll through all those users who are supposedly 'online' and it'd make it even harder to see who's actually currently online the chatbox.
Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
Yeah I understand that but if a user goes to post around and can not chat while doing so it disconnects them. They find it annoying. That is the bottom line, if they do not like it then it needs tl go. As I said if it was just me I would not care, but I have community to run and they want it gone. I am not saying get rid of totally, but give us (the admins) the option to. Or even give us an option within the chat itself like in awc. I do not think it is terribly hard to come up with a way to give us an option. There are many ways to do it.

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
If that's the case, why not use the 'away' function instead of disconnecting people?SLGray wrote:It is a way to know who exactly is active on the chatbox.

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
As I have mentioned before, I am not vouching to totally get rid of it, but give us the option to if we or our members want to. That way it if an admin wants it they have it, if they don't they can disable it. I would like the option to disable this feature. Most importantly my members want me to disable it.
Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
Think about this: someone logs in and starts to chat, but something happens and the members goes away from the computer. The member does not comeback until the next day. It will show that member still on.

Yeah, and 'away' as well. No problem, right? And I thought members would automatically be disconnected after 60 minutes of inactivity on the forum http://prntscr.com/62coww , so what about that?SLGray wrote:Think about this: someone logs in and starts to chat, but something happens and the members goes away from the computer. These two posts sums up everything!SLGray wrote:Think about this: someone logs in and starts to chat, but something happens and the members goes away from the computer. The member does not comeback until the next day. It will show that member still on.
So we must not confuse "posts on a forum" with the "posts in chats"!SamanthaS wrote:Yeah, and 'away' as well. No problem, right? And I thought members would automatically be disconnected after 60 minutes of inactivity on the forum http://prntscr.com/62coww , so what about that?
Have you observed how many messages are posted to a chat with the amount that are posted on a forum in the same period?
You should reflect the fact that it has been almost six years and so far it has not been approved.

Re: Edit/Remove Chatbox Timeout
1st off if it disconnected the user from the forum why wouldn't it do it for the chat? You have to be connected to the forum to be connected to the chat. How do we even know it wouldn't we have never been able to test the thoery. All of this is besides my point anyway, if I and my users are willing to take that risk in order to have a no disconnect feature we should be able to have that choice, not be forced to use it. It takes away the forum's and Admins indepence. If I as an admin are wiĺling to accept having inactive users showing I should be able to. That is why I am an admin, I can decide what risks I and my forum are willing to take. But it is not right to force it on my forum, my forum's community and every other forumotion community. Give us an option, that is all I ask. I am not asking for the moon!
