My forum got attacked by hackers!!!

Guys I'm really worried and I need help. My forum got attacked by a hacker 30 minutes ago. I have never given an information about any of the admin's accounts. I never opened suspicious links which can take my password. I just hacked by that IP 212.5.158.17 !! He deleted all of our forum topics and threads. I was forced to do a back up and I did the minimum which was 3 days. How did that guy got my password? He said he won't leave my forum alone, he said he will attack it again soon. Guys I need more security, I had blocked every man who can do bad things to my forum but I'm still not sure how that's gonna end. Can anyone of you help me with something to make me feel that the forum is safe? If anything, can I atleast get a the forum data so I can insert it to other forumotion forum If anything happens with my current?

Hello,

It's good thing you still had access to the founder tools, make sure your passwords are longish and have numbers and/or symbols to make it harder to hack. If you can, make your forum admin account password and your founder tools seperate. Ip ban him and just keep at it, eventually he will move on. In the meantime, just up security, if you have mods, tell them to be on the look out qnd establish a protocyl or procedure if something were to bappen. Try making it so an admin has to approve all new accounts. Whatever you do, DO NOT acknowledge the hacker publicly. Just keep banning his email addresses, ips, usernames, accounts, etc. Keep ignoring him, eventually he will probably get tired and move on/leave your forum alone.

I can't log with my passwords to the main account. Can u send me a link where I can change it from my first mail and etc I know that there was one site like that but I lost it. It had the backup option, the password option and etc

Okay guys, thank you very much. But if anything happens with my forum, can I get the data access so I can renew it on other forumotion site?

I don't know about the data access, as I don't believe forumotion allows ANYONE to have access to the database and/or their data for ANY reason or under ANY cermstances. I am not 100% sure if this though. If anything happens to it, you can always restore the forum using the forum utilities .

Just a little help here.

log in to your Founders account in your Forum Utilities Change the password in there
Then log in to your forum using the Forum Utilities then Change your password and Email address in the ACP

Now when banning a member:
Ban the Email address
The members Email address
The username.
Make sure you ban all the IP addresses that member has used
To find the Ip addresses just click on any post he has made and click on the ip button. it will give you a list of all the ip's that member has used.

Now to make it even more safe:
Change your settings so only Admin's can ok your new members

ACP >> Users & Groups Tab >>  User >> Users options >> New accounts activation : ADMIN only SAVE

Did this person exactly use the founder account or just an administrator's account?

He used just an administrator's account

If thats the case you may want to speak to that administrator on getting a more secure password.

On other note: Make sure you can 110% trust someone BEFORE you make them an admin .
