Re: ads keep pop in topics
Um there is a setting somewhere to disable this.
I cant seem to find it.. it may only be on phpbb3 so let me switch to that version on my test forum and i will see if i can locate where it is.
It's been a while since i seen someone say this. i thought it was not even an option anymore, but am always getting mixed up with regular phpbb. so i will take a look.
Info added
Can you give me a screen shot? or link to a post where they are appearing.
I know what you are talking about but can not seem to find the setting anywhere?
this is odd i really thought forumotion did away with this long ago, Unless i am just skipping it over looking the setting?

Re: ads keep pop in topics
create a regular test member account and log in with it and see if you see them then.
Because if you dont then it is something in their browsers settings.
But if you do then it is something in the forums settings some how.
Like i said i have not heard this in a log time and do not seem to see anything.
Or tell them to give you the link to the post they are in so i can see if they appear to me. Be sure the forum is set for guest so i can see the post.
Make sure your traffic exchange setting is off as well. I honestly do not remember what it is and how to get rid of it. But if it is appearing for one member then it should be appearing for all.
So i am not sure we will have to wait fro a couple more replies to see if someone else remembers ??? either way it will be sorted out.

Re: ads keep pop in topics
Hi Steve,
Can we have the URL of the page(s) with these in?
Also, are there any re-occuring words, for example "play, download"?
These adds are I believe built in and are only (auto-)applied in *certain* circumstances, but should be over ridden (I believe) by purchasing the removal of adds.
Kirk, no options for these type of adds

In the screenshot, I do not see any ads. Are you talking about the post that has loved ones underlined twice?

You sure there add's and not key words ?
I some times get them on my mates forum and he pays for add's to be removed !!

Re: ads keep pop in topics
Ape, their adds for sure, why would it otherwise link to some other site?
Slg, their linked adds, just like a normal hyper link to say, Google. The way you can tell is that it's green.
Steve please don't stress, slg should be able to pass it up to Leeloo who'd be able to pop in (presumably) tomorrow and sort things out.
I assure you, ForuMotion is NOT "conning" you. It's a simple error on the companies side I believe.

there used to be at one time. But i can not recall what it was called. i know it was something to with underline something??? but it dont work like that anymore.
I do believe there is something that has to be set a certain way to rid them though. I remember we have ran into members experiencing this before in the past.
Guess we will have to ask leeloo..
This is one of those things that is not asked often, and i get stuck with it every time... lol
info added
See if this was what i thought it was. It would happen in just about post/threads and with more words. what i am thinking of was something that would target certain key words, and yes it would be click-able to ad's, But going by all other post i have seen on your forum this dose not appear to be the case. It would help if he could have the links to the post these are in?
Are you sure this is not a member adding text linking in his reply with bbcode?
Find out what thread and post these are in and click edit on the members post and see if he added it.

The place you was looking for for links was in the General tab under
Forum >> Configuration it was something like show keywords underlined or some thing like that i have looked over my old help files i have on my USB hard drive but the only thing i found was a setting under
Reduce the number of displays for images advertisments : YES NO
Activate ads : [ ]All [ ]Members and guests [X]Guest
But the setting under that is now missing so i think this is the one that you was talking about kirk

Thanx man. i know it was something like that before.
However i dont think this is the same thing as that.. leeloo will know.
SLG has brought something to my attention of something new forumotion has added back a few months ago that would only allow guest to see certain underlined text ad's.
However right now i am not sure if it was ever implied or not? Plus as a guest i am not seeing anything as well?.
But thanx ape. I think thats what it was, i am like ripping my hair out trying to find something that is no longer there... LOL

Re: ads keep pop in topics
Hello,
We won't see these ads too, because this kind of ads are in your computer only.
It has nothing to do with Forumotion, but with something installed on your computer, that provides ads randomly on words.
If you visit some other websites from your computer, it should be the same problem
I suggest you do a scan with your antivirus.
Thanks !

Re: ads keep pop in topics
Ok then the one option i was thinking of is indeed a thing of the past.
I will have to remember this because nothing like searching to resolve a problem that is not on forumotions end.
Thank you Leeloo
Leeloo i am not sure if you was with forumotion a few years ago, but at one time there was actually option to allow this.. This is where i have gotten confused with it
Thanx again
@S-t-e-v-e-
As leeloo has said ask theM to run all their virus scans they have. They may also want to check any browser settings or tool bars for any tool bars they may have installed.
Depending on how long this has been occurring , Your member should be able to do a computer restore back to a point before this start happening and that should take it out as well. However, I would defiantly run all scans first and remove any unnecessary tool bars that may have been installed if not needed.

I ran a scan on my laptop and found nothing this has only ever been coming up on my mates forum not any other so i looked at the cookies that was on my laptop and found nothing but i removed them and all looked ok then went back on my mates site and he had a guy from the head office at work and they said to clear the Temp files on he's computer and on mine and its worked So best thing to do is Clear all Unnecessary Files off your computer and this should fix your problem.
As leeloo said it's got to be some thing on there computer that should not be there or have neen put there by google or some thing like that.
Re: ads keep pop in topics
So lucky I have a half day off
Thanks Leeloo
Ive done a Google search and this appears as a re-occuring solution, which applies to all browsers if on Win-7, or will have to be applied individually if on any other operating system.
However, please, as Leeloo has said, run an anti-virus AND anti-Spyware scan.
I would like to put an emphasis, after this research, on Anti-Spyware.
Note that if your running ad block plus, or any other quality No-Adds plugin/addon with your browser, you will NOT see these.
Thanks Leeloo

Simple fix:
open IE, click on tools, internet options, click the security tab and highlight restricted sites. Click on the sites button below it and on the add this site to the zone: enter this just as it look's *.intellitxt.com
Refresh the page - no more roll over rubbish Happy browsing all. I'm sure the is an equivilent way to do it in Firefox but I haven't tried it.

I didn't know that this system has existed, nobody here remember that.
Few weeks ago, we were talking about use a system like this, not like that but with ads targeted in function of the words, but it was canceled very fast, without being sent online.
When I've seen the screenshot I understood what it is because I already saw it. It is the same ads everywhere on the website and randomly on words...
Well, I hope this is fixed for S-t-e-v-e- now.
Thanks !

Thanx Darren and ape for the additional info.
I remember i had a toolbar once that caused things like this to.
And yes leeloo SLG had brought the one thing to my attention you had posted in the office, but was not sure if it was ever implied or not.. So thanx for clarifying that as well. Good to know.

Re: ads keep pop in topics
I dont know.. i am not seeing anything like that in any post i checked.
What is the link to the post of the screen shot?
I dont see how it could be more then one member unless somehow they all got the same thing or something like it?
Leeloo has said it is not anything forumotion has in place?
Have they tried all of what Darren has suggest.. you can give them the link to this thread if they would like to read it them self's
If all else fails they can try to do a system restore, But they have to be sure they can go back to a point of before it start happening?
Like i said it could be something like a tool bar they installed or gotten with a download somewhere as well? There are many things you have to be cautious about downloading and installing.. A lot of free software will sometimes come with other things, I do not know if this is the case just trying to trouble shoot as much as possible.

Re: ads keep pop in topics
I have never seen anything like that in the 4 years I been with formotion. I have of course seen links that resembled that in posted message before on other forums and websites, but not forumotion.
I am impressed and thankful that forumotion rejected the idea quickly to do anything that closely resembles that.
When I fist started reading this thread the first thought that came to my mind was that some of his members had spyware and/or viruses on there computer, and that does appear to be the case.
You can advise people to download anti-spyware and anti virus programs until you're blue in the face, but ultimately it is up to them to choose the right program for the job and act on it. Not all anti-spyware and virus programs do the same thing. They all don't all have the same exact definitions to catch the offending spyware or virus.
So my suggestion to Steve would be to first fix it on your computer, and then you could suggest a fix for your members. In all probability they are going to think they got it from your forum or your forum is causing this to happen, so its going to be a sticky situation convincing people its not the forums doings.
Good luck to Steve with this issue.

Re: ads keep pop in topics
Well then the answer for you is a simple one. Suggest they start reading computer forums and educate themselves on how to fix 'there' problem. Its not your problem or forumotion, its there problem for not protecting there computers as a result of not knowing about the computers vulnerabilities to spyware and viruses.
