Registration

A new member was trying to register for my forum. He kept getting: "That user name is already used."
I checked the user name he was using and no one else was using it.
He tried several other user names and then finally got one that allowed him to proceed.
He then typed in his emai address and got the message:
"Sorry, but this e-mail address is invalid". or "Sorry, but that e-mail address is already registered by another user."
I checked in CP and no one else has his email address.
I even tried to sign-in for this new member with his user name and email address and got the same message.
Why is this happening? If I remember correclty, it has happened several times in the past where it said that the user name was being used, and no one else had the user name.

Admin panel > general > security > Unauthorize subscriptions made with the most commonly used spam usernames. > set no

Thank you.
(I did set to NO.)

I tried again to use his User Name and Email address and got the message that it did go through and he would receive an email.
But I thought I could go into my CP and see his name and email address and I could approve him. However, I do not see his name or email address anywhere in the CP / Users and Groups / Search Users.
If he was approved, shouldn't his name/email be listed somewhere in my CP?
