Solved Creating a Table

Post by Tadashi April 9th 2015, 2:53 am

Hello guys!

First up, I apologize if have not found the answer for this question myself, but please put into consideration that I created an account here just for this one. Thanks in advance.

Now my problem is that when I insert a table in a post, it creates a space above it which is my problem. How do I resolve this?

Here's the table's html that I used:

Code:
<style type="text/css">
.tg  {border-collapse:collapse;border-spacing:0;}
.tg td{font-family:Arial, sans-serif;font-size:14px;padding:10px 5px;border-style:solid;border-width:1px;overflow:hidden;word-break:normal;}
.tg th{font-family:Arial, sans-serif;font-size:14px;font-weight:normal;padding:10px 5px;border-style:solid;border-width:1px;overflow:hidden;word-break:normal;}
.tg .tg-q4v1{font-weight:bold;color:#ffce93;text-align:center}
.tg .tg-qp8u{color:#ffffff;text-align:center}
.tg .tg-2uhc{color:#ffffff}
</style>
<table class="tg" style="undefined;table-layout: fixed; width: 254px">
<colgroup>
<col style="width: 121px">
<col style="width: 66px">
<col style="width: 67px">

  <tr>
    <th class="tg-q4v1">Name<br></th>

Wow... that is one stubborn table you have there!

I have thrown almost everything I could think of at this darn table on my test forum! This darn thing still won't budge.

P.s
Did you make this table yourself by the way?

Exactly. Evil or Very Mad

I used this one:
http://www.tablesgenerator.com/html_tables#

I tried copying a code of a random table in another forum and it still gives me this unwanted space. It just varied, the longer the code is, the longer the space gets.
What's goin' on with me? Haha

Well... it could be that maybe that table generator uses html that is not properly supported by forumotion, your best bet would be simply to create one using the editor of forumotion itself. Also, I cut a pretty sizable chunk of that table out, the space is still there, so I have no clue what else to try. I threw everything I could think of at it. bwi Hem :/ Rolling Eyes Confused

I have tried creating one myself. The space still gets there. I'm feeling hopeless. Jeez.
Thanks for trying, buddy. I really appreciate it.

Well no.... if you do it through forumotion it will not have the space. I use tables all the time, for promoting and such. Here... you can get a working template here: http://fmdesign.forumotion.com/t270-moderation-template

Just modify it to your liking.. I can assure you, there will be no space with it.

Tried all the codes from the link you provided. None of 'em worked. I apologize. I think I have spent too much time and effort for this. I only wanted to create a table as scoreboard for our events. Why is it so hard to do?

Anyway, I can't thank you enough, Brandon. Of all the users here, you're the only one who tried to help me. I really appreciate it. More power.

Solved Re: Creating a Table

Post by Ange Tuteur April 9th 2015, 9:59 am

Hi @Tadashi,

I've never seen anything like it. However, experimenting with the code revealed that the spaces in the markup seem to be added as breaks before the table itself. Minifying the table seemed to work without problem though. I'll try to bring this up to see if there's a possibility of fixing this.

Anyhow, try replacing the table with this :
Code:
<style type="text/css">.tg{border-collapse:collapse;border-spacing:0;}.tg td{font-family:Arial, sans-serif;font-size:14px;padding:10px 5px;border-style:solid;border-width:1px;overflow:hidden;word-break:normal;}.tg th{font-family:Arial, sans-serif;font-size:14px;font-weight:normal;padding:10px 5px;border-style:solid;border-width:1px;overflow:hidden;word-break:normal;}.tg .tg-q4v1{font-weight:bold;color:#ffce93;text-align:center}.tg .tg-qp8u{color:#ffffff;text-align:center}.tg .tg-2uhc{color:#ffffff}</style><table class="tg" style="undefined;table-layout: fixed; width: 254px"><colgroup><col style="width: 121px"><col style="width: 66px"><col style="width: 67px"></colgroup> <tr> <th class="tg-q4v1">Name<br></th> <th class="tg-q4v1">Merits</th> <th class="tg-q4v1">Demerits</th> </tr><tr> <td class="tg-qp8u">Spwn</td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td></tr><tr> <td class="tg-qp8u">What?</td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td></tr><tr> <td class="tg-qp8u">MrDevias</td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td></tr><tr> <td class="tg-qp8u">EkZMaKiNa</td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td></tr><tr> <td class="tg-qp8u">A-R-G-I-E</td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td></tr><tr> <td class="tg-qp8u">-FiNN-</td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td></tr><tr> <td class="tg-qp8u">{VIP}Log</td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td></tr><tr> <td class="tg-qp8u">{VIP}Login</td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td></tr><tr> <td class="tg-qp8u">STReNGTH</td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td></tr><tr> <td class="tg-qp8u">NotOnMyLVL</td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td></tr><tr> <td class="tg-qp8u"></td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td><td class="tg-qp8u"></td></tr><tr> <td class="tg-2uhc"></td><td class="tg-2uhc"></td><td class="tg-2uhc"></td></tr><tr> <td class="tg-2uhc"></td><td class="tg-2uhc"></td><td class="tg-2uhc"></td></tr></table>

or, just run your HTML through here : http://www.willpeavy.com/minifier/ It'll place your table code onto one line so there's no spaces or unintended breaks being added during parsing.

No problem. Wink

Unfortunately they were unable to fix the additional breaks inside the table, so if you encounter the same problem simply run your table code through the minifier I provided in my last post.
