[Only Topic] YouTube videos in Internet Explorer & Chrome
First topic message reminder :
Embedded YouTube videos are not showing in Internet Explorer. There's just a narrow solid vertical black box where the video should be. They appear and play OK in Firefox though. All my members have reported the same problem, and I can see the problem too. Any ideas?

Re: [Only Topic] YouTube videos in Internet Explorer & Chrome
I just posted over in the Redirection thread about this. I am thinking that some attempt at a fix is affecting certain combinations of devices and only at Forumotion forums. Because the users have no trouble elsewhere on the Internet. It happened suddenly to several users. Not everyone. And at least one of our users is running Firefox that has this problem.

Re: [Only Topic] YouTube videos in Internet Explorer & Chrome
Same vertical black bars are happening on my forum for YT embeds. I guess Google officially killed Flash.
Re: [Only Topic] YouTube videos in Internet Explorer & Chrome
should move to HTML5 from now, Adobe will kill flash player in future .....
Re: [Only Topic] YouTube videos in Internet Explorer & Chrome
Syndicate wrote:Came in to say I am having the same issue on our forum. Works fine on firefox but not on Chrome.
There is a way around it. I found a JS which coverts youtube links into auto-embed.
In the topics only
- Code:
jQuery(function(){
var ancho = "560";
var alto = "315";
jQuery('.postbody a[href*="youtube.com/watch"]').each(function(){
var ytid = jQuery(this).attr('href').split("v=")[1].split("&")[0];
jQuery(this).html("<iframe width="+ancho+" height="+alto+" src=https://www.youtube.com/embed/"+ytid+" frameborder=0 allowfullscreen></iframe><br>");
});
});
So if you post just the youtube link like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bag1gUxuU0g Then that code will auto-embed it and so far it works fine.
But it's just a temp solution till the old way gets fixed.
Bringing this forward to the next page. This worked perfectly for our forum.

Youtube is written almost all in html5 nowadays and even able to play on mobile devices. Chrome not having a flash player would not effect youtube playback.

If they don't they are going to lose most of their traffic. A forum without embedded YT isn't worth 2 cents.

Hello dear!Guardian-Angel wrote:I'm sorry, it does work. I was previewing it first which didn't show the embedded youtube.
Post the link, hit send without previewing and it works.
TY.
You can test with this tutorial of PT community? http://ajuda.forumeiros.com/t56744-topic The Portuguese say that work.
you only need post the link of video of Youtube in the topic, and... Auto-Embed!

Thank you Syndicate for the temporary fix it works.
I am having the same problems with my forum. Only firefox is displaying youtube embeds properly. Chrome is just showing a black box 1/4th the size of a video frame.

Firefox , Safari work fine

What is the status of this problem, are all Youtube videos down permanently in these forums? People on the forums are becoming increasingly frustrated and many may end up leaving due to this problem.
I have read that the fix is the change the BBCode for the Youtube embedding, but I don't see anywhere a forum admin can do this. Does this have to be done by Forumotion support staff?

Re: [Only Topic] YouTube videos in Internet Explorer & Chrome
Hello,
As it is holiday in France (where our main office is) and we just got off the weekend and thus our main office is closed. We do not have any update on this issue and we most likely will not until atleast tommorow morning (French time) when the main office re opens.
We apologize for the inconvience and delay in this getting fixed, the timing of the issue just so happened to be bad, when there would be a 3 day weekend for the office. When the office re opens tommorow, I am sure we will hear something from our pro admin on this. In the meantime we continue to ask for your patience.

Hey guys,
If no else is having anymore issues with this, then is it safe to say this issue is officially solved? If so, I will go ahead and mark it solved and then archive it.

Yes, it is fixed! Thank you very much!
Re: [Only Topic] YouTube videos in Internet Explorer & Chrome
Looking back through old threads on my forum it looks like embedding links made after May 2014 are now back to normal. But the videos embedded earlier than that are still just shown a narrow black box.
